Road Cleaner

Introduction:
Our term project is to make road cleaner which will clean the road edges and road with the help
of brush connected to bevel gears. We will use a motorcycle engine to drive our mechanism,
Bevel gear then rotates the brushes connected with it. In recent years cleanliness is becoming an
important factor for the betterment of the nation and so, to support the cause we have conducted
a study, prepared a design and working of a Road Cleaner. The cleaner is an approach to deliver
easy and time efficient cleaning of roads, by reducing human efforts.
Literature review:
As we can see around us heavy road cleaning machine that requires much power to drive its
mechanism but our project is fuel efficient which require less fuel and get its job done. We will
use a 70cc motorcycle engine to drive our cleaner. We are using two bevel gears which will
rotate the brushes attached at its lower end.
Applications:
Our project mechanism is used in road cleaning machine that cleans the road with the help of a
brush and roller attached at the bottom of it. These floor cleaning machines is most widely used
in
Airport platforms
Railway platforms
Hospitals
Bus stands, and malls
Other commercial places
Problem Statement:
The major problem which Pakistan faces is cleanliness. The problem we came across was
cleanliness on roads, pathways, lanes, highways, railway stations airports etc. The dust and dirt
on the road as well as metal and other pieces on the road are a problem for the humans. It is
harmful for human race as well as the vehicles running on the road. Dust and dirt causes asthma
and other respiratory problems. On the other hand metal particles and other abrasive particles are
harmful for tires of vehicles. The main feature would be cost efficiency as the cost to make the
machine is very less as compared to other cleaners available in the market. Machines that are
available in market make much noise but our project is eco friendly, consumes less fuel and does
not make noise.
Main Body:
Main body includes methodology and results.
Methodology:
We have made a model on creo software, calculated all the calculations for stresses and safety
factor. We have assumed some values like revolution per minute (rpm) of bevel gear, which is
2000. First we have made an assembly of bevel gears on creo then passed a shaft through it. On
bevel gears a brush is connected with a help of another shaft, when shaft rotates it will rotate
brushes connected to it. Given below is the picture of assembly of bevel gears.
Results:
From the calculations of bevel gears the safety factor is 1.50 (which is acceptable).
For shaft calculations factor of safety is 2.5
Discussions:
Some values are assumed in the calculations like rpm of bevel gears, factor of safety of shaft to
calculate the alternating bending stress. Some other information has been taken with the help of
book examples.
