I. Affirmations
a. Affirmation - a statement said with confidence about a perceived truth
“Every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation.” Sandy Gallagher.
“An affirmation can work as it has the ability to program your mind into believing the
stated concept. This is because the mind doesn't know the difference between what is
real or fantasy. When you watch a movie and you start to laugh or cry your mind is
empathizing with the characters on the screen even though it is only Hollywood magic.
There are both positive and negative types of affirmations. I'm sure many of us can
remember as a child being told by a teacher, parent or coach that we didn't have the
ability to do something, or we were fat, clumsy, etc. These unwholesome statements can
stay with us in the conscious or unconscious mind, which we then reinforce throughout
our lives. “

b. God spoke and life was created. We have the same power (Gen 1: 1-5)
II. Guard your thoughts. Your thoughts are a reflection of your faith.
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. Col 3:2

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is
excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned
or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of
peace will be with you. Phil 4:8
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts
is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not
expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and
unstable in all they do. James 1: 6-8
III. Practical Applications
a. Read every day out loud 2xs a day. (Rom 10:17)
b. Spend at least 10 min a day visualizing your affirmation. Set a timer and envision
yourself embodying all that you affirm to be.

c. Don't try to figure out how it will happen, just have faith and believe, God is working in
you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him (Phil 2:13 NLT)
d. Don't tell anyone what you are doing. "What you do in secret, God will reward
openly". (Mat 6:6)
IV. Sample Affirmations – These are my personal affirmations that I have used during various
seasons of my life.
a. My Life Vision: I am a wholehearted lover of God. I have confidence in God's love and
His commitment to me. I believe God's word is true and He never lies. I know that He
listens to me and He is moved by the sound of my voice. I am a person who flows in the
love and wisdom of God. People are blessed by my life and ministry. I am surrounded
by favor, compassion and loving-kindness with everyone I come in contact with. The
Holy Spirit gives me new ideas, orders my steps and opens doors of opportunity for
strategic alliances in each area of my life. I am a giver. As I give away my life, life will be
given back to me. Not merely given back--given back with bonus and blessing. Giving,
not getting is the way I live my life. The law of reciprocity is always manifesting itself in
my life.
b. During my Dark Night of the Soul: I appreciate my circumstances and my reality. It is
making me who I am and challenging me in just the right ways---just where I need it. I
am so grateful for every aspect of how my life is. I will continue to strive toward positive
change. In the meantime, I accept all aspects of all things that I cannot change right
now.
c. My Children’s affirmation: I am happy and grateful that I am walking in purpose and
calmness of mind. I am diligent and focused. I am not worried about tomorrow. I am
present and take one day at a time. I am strong and powerful. I can do all things through
Christ who gives me strength. I am healed by his stripes. I am not afraid.
d. While struggling with emotional eating and food addiction: My body is a temple of the
Holy Spirit. I choose to honor my temple and make good food choices. I am no longer a
slave to gluttony and self-indulgence. I am disciplined and self-controlled in my
eating. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I
choose you. You are my portion. I am confident, secure and accepted by you. I choose
you. You are my portion.
