Design features
Mechanical connection to the valve
EPI2 actuators feature a multi drilled base plate and a range of drive inserts to allow direct
mounting to almost all valve types according the EN ISO 5211 and Keystone standard.
Electric motor
The electric motor with innovative universal power supply module is used in all EPI2 actuators.
Uniquely designed to automatically accept any single phase input voltages (from 24 to 240 V DC or
AC). EPI2 can simply be connected to the local power and it will adapt to the available power rating.
Alternatively 3 phase voltages from 208-240 V AC, 380-480 V AC and 575 V AC are also available.
Electric motor thermostat
A thermostat to protect the motor temperature in hot applications is included as standard in the
control circuit of the electric actuator.
Heater
A heater is standard available within the unit and is powered from the motor power supply. It is
automatically activated when the temperature drops below 10°C in order to prevent condensation.
Actuator service
The standard actuator is suitable for open/close and modulating applications. For open/close
applications the motor rating is S3-100% duty and for modulating applications S4-50% (maximum
of 1200 starts/hour at 40°C).
Compact and light design
EPI2 actuators are very compact and balanced for easy installation to small valves minimizing pipe
work stress or loads to the valve shaft.
Actuator configuration
Each actuator is equipped with 2 rotary switches on the logic board to configure each function and
parameter like position, torque, open/close speed and output contacts. Additionally each option has
its own additional switches for its specific configuration.
Local manual override
A constantly engaged manual override (not rotating during motor operation) is fitted to all EPI2
actuators.
Torque and sizing
The EPI2 range comprises of six models, for operating torques of up to 2.000 Nm with a
configurable operation time from 10 to 400 seconds. The nominal output torque value is constant
along the entire stroke.
Non-intrusive configuration
With Bluetooth® wireless technology enabled on your PDA or PC all configuration requirements can
be undertaken without opening the unit. Direct access to the EPI2 is then available for configuration
and predictive/preventative maintenance information, including valve position, actuator speed,
output torque, alarm and status.
Position monitoring
The EPI2 provides a local mechanical position indication. For remote indication the position is
detected by a non-contact Hall effect sensor. The open and close position are configured via the
electronic control card.

software installed. This software is password protected and offers different levels of security. With
the A-Manager software the configuration can be stored and reloaded to the actuator. All active
alarms are visible, and with the correct password level remote operation of the actuator is possible.
OM8 – AS-interface module
The AS-interface module allows cyclic control and status communication to the control system
according the IEC 62026-2 standard and supports the V2.1 specification.
OM9 – Profibus DPV1 module
The Profibus DPV1 module allows cyclic communication (V0) and acyclic communication (V1)
according to the IEC 61158 standard.
This module provides control and remote configuration from the master station, and also alarm
status information. This module can be used for both open/close as modulating applications.
OM10 – Foundation FieldbusTM module
The FF interface module is in the testing phase and has not been release yet.
OM11 - DeviceNetTM module
The DeviceNet module allows cyclic communication according the IEC 62026-3 standard.
This module provides control and remote configuration from the master station, and also alarm
status information. This module can be used for both open/close as modulating applications.
OM13 – 3-wire interface
This module changes the standard 5-wire control strategy into a 3-wire control strategy by
combining the power and control commands.
Only available for 110-240 V AC applications.
