Dopamine Hydrochloride

Dopamine is a naturally occurring neurotransmitter and precursor to norepinephrine that has major cardiovascular effects through direct action on alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors. It is used to correct hemodynamic imbalance in shock syndromes due to conditions like myocardial infarction, trauma, sepsis, open heart surgery, and congestive heart failure. Common adverse effects include hypotension, tachycardia, hypertension, nausea, and headache. Nurses monitor patients' vital signs, urine output, and indicators of perfusion and therapeutic effectiveness when dopamine is administered.
