Today the NCC is one of the largest uniformed youth organizations in the world with over 1.3 million cadets. The NCC aims to develop character, discipline, leadership and ideals of service in youth. National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Inception and significance of NCC

The NCC was created as University Corps under the Indian Defence Act, 1917 with
the objective to train students for the Army. In 1920, when the Indian Territorial Act was
passed, the “University Corps” was replaced by the “University Training Corp[s” (UTC). In
1942, the UTC was renamed as the “University Officers Training Corps” (UOTC). In
September 1946, a was set up under Kunzru committee was set up for establishment of a
nation-wide youth organization. The “National Cadet Corps” (NCC) came into existence on
15th July 1948 under National Cadets Corps Act (No.XXXI of 1948) enacted by the
parliament. The Army NCC unit in Girls Division was introduced in 1949. Air force and
Naval NCC Units followed soon in 1950 and 1952 respectively. This voluntary youth
organization, which started with 20,000 cadets, is today probably the largest uniformed youth
organization in the world with 13 lakh cadets (boys and girls). The NCC Head quarter is
located in New Delhi. Control and co-ordination are exercised through 17 State
Directorates. NCC Officers Training Academies are located at Kamptee for Male
Officers and Gwalior for Women Officers.

The NCC, is one of the a premier youth organizations in our country, contributed in
propagating national unity and integrity amongst youth. Its role in instilling in them the
values of character, discipline and hard work and in shaping them into dynamic and
responsible citizens of the country had been well recognized. It is one of the foremost
organization which grooms the youth, the students to be worthy citizens and future leaders of
our nations and further it instils in students discipline, courage, and patriotism.

NCC is an organization trains lakhs of students under its fold. Students who have undergone
NCC training have self-discipline, leadership qualities and good value systems. It has played
an important role in the all-round development of the youth of our country and in grooming
future leaders in all fields. The contribution of the National Cadet Corps in the process
of nation building and national integration has been commendable and worthy of the
nation’s full support and encouragement.

The National Cadet Corps is a vibrant organization with pool of well-motivated and
distinguished boys and girls. It plays a dominant role in nation building and imbibing selfless
services, discipline and leadership among youth. NCC Cadets can join Defence services. It
instils in the cadets a sense of commitment to the values of National Integration, Nationalism
and secularism. These qualities would not only make the youth as responsible citizens, but
also help in achieving the vision of developed India It plays commendable role in grooming
the cadets both physically and mentally. The well-designed curriculum of National Cadet
Corps, consisting of myriad training, adventure, cultural and social activities is of
immense value to the young generation, enabling them to take on the challenges of the
modern world.

Aims of NCC :

provide leadership in all walks of life and always available for the service of the
nation.

o To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career


inthe Armed Forces.

Training Activities:

1. Institutional Training (48%)

 Military Training, Parades Campus and Certificate Examinations A/B/C

2. Community Development/Social Service (19%)

 Blood Donation, Tree Plantation, Awareness campaign,

 Awareness Campaign, Cancer Awareness Programme, Fire Fighting, Visit

3. Adventure Training and Sports (21%)

 Para Sailing/Jumping, Micro Light Flying, Hang Gliding, Slithering,

 Wind Surfing, Scuba Diving, Ocean Sailing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Water

 Skiing, Yachting, Cycle/Motor Cycle Expedition, Trekking,

 Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Riding, etc.,

4. Youth Exchange Programme (8%)

 Visit to Russia, Nepal/Bhutan, Singapore, United Kingdom, Bangladesh,

 Yangon, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Foreign Naval Cruise, Foreign Coast Guard, and
Cruise.

5. Career Counselling (8%)

Enrolment procedure ,eligibility criteria and training activities

Separate forms for enrolment are available with the Company Commander (ANO). Cadets
are enrolled on special day, called enrolment Day ; on that day cadets are selected based on
their physical fitness, athletic competition, long jump

Enrolment in NCC is purely voluntary and has no service liability. Only the first and second
year degree class students are eligible for enrolment.

A cadet is expected to complete 80 hours of training per year spreading over the period
from August to February.

She is eligible for 'B' certificate, only if she puts in two years of service in NCC with
minimum 75% attendance in parade and one training camp.

cadet is eligible for 'C' certificate, only if she puts in three years of service in NCC with
minimum 75% attendance of parade, and attend one special camp with two training
camps.

The unique chance to handle weapons and to fire live ammunitions.


Becomes courageous, to meet any situation in life. Has good opportunity to participate in
camps and courses like Annual Training Camps, Leadership courses, Rock Climbing,
Trekking, Mountaineering courses, Republic Day Parade in Delhi, Para Training, Cycle
expedition, etc. Can visit other states and countries on delegation at Government expenses.

Can qualify himself additionally by taking 'B' Certificate Examination at the end of the
second year of training and 'C' Certificate Examination at the end of the third year of training.

Can have an easy entry into Police Department, Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Scholarship for NCC Cadets

An annual Sahara scholarship scheme of Rs. 1 Crore to be given out as scholarships per
annum to NCC cadets, has been instituted by the Sahara Group.

1.JD and JW Rs.6,000/- each

2.SD and SW Rs. 12,000/- each

3.Professional Rs.6,000/- each

A) JUNIOR DIVISION/WING :

Scholarship for cadets passing Class X examination and fulfilling the laid down eligibility
criteria. Two scholarhip of Rs 6000/- each for one year will be awarded to JD and JW cadets
per NCC Group. Total number of scholarhips will be 368. The eligibility conditions for
award of scholarships are as under.

a. Minimum 65% marks in Class VIII, IX and X.

b. 5% bonus marks given to SC/ST/OBC candidates.

c. One year in NCC in 8th, 9th or l0m class.

d. Should have 80% attendance in NCC.

B) SENIOR DIVISION/WING :

Scholarships for cadets passing 10 + 2 or equivalent examination admitted in regular


graduation courses recognized by the UGC viz BA B Sc, B Com, BCA, BBA and fulfilling
laid down eligibility criteria. Two scholarships of Rs 12,000/- each for one year will be
awarded to SD and SW cadets per NCC Group. Total number of scholarships will be 368.
The eligibility conditions for award of scholarships are as under.

a. Should have passed class XII in preceding two years.

b. Completed at least one year of NCC in SD/SW

c. 5% bonus marks to be given to SC/ST/OBC candidates

d. Should have 80% attendance in NCC.


e. Should have obtained minimum following marks.

o (i) Science - 65%

o (i) Science - 65%

o (i) Science - 65%

C) HIGHER STUDIES :

Scholarships for cadets passing 10 + 2 or equivalent examination admitted in professional


courses recognized by the Government and UGC viz Engineering, Medical, Business
Administration, Hotel Management etc and fulfilling the laid down eligibility criteria. Sixty
six scholarships of Rs 30,000/- each will be awarded for one year common for Boys and
Girls. Distribution of these scholarships between various States and Union Territories will be
based on the number of NCC Groups per State/ UT. The eligibility conditions for award of
scholarships are as under.

a. Should have passed class XII in preceding two years.

b. Marks of class XII to form the basis of merit.

c. Should have done 2 years of NCC.

d. Should have 80% attendance in NCC.

e. Admitted to any of the following professional course recognized by Govt/UGC

o (i) Engineering

o (ii) Medical

o (iii) Hotel Management

o (iv) Business Administration

o (v) Fashion Designing

o (vi) Journalism

o (vii) Mass Media

o (viii) MBA

Scholarship from Cadets welfare society

The Society grants 500 scholarships of Rs 5,000/- each to NCC Cadets who excel in
academics. The vacancies are allotted to all states based on the enrolled strength of each state.
The eligibility conditions for award of scholarships are as under

 (1) Junior Division / Wing Cadets

Cadets should have passed 10th Standard or equivalent examination in the preceding
academic year to which the scholarship pertains with 70% marks in aggregate. They should
have undergone training for at least 2 full years with a minimum of 80% attendance in each
year with exemplary discipline.

 (2) Senior Division / Wing Cadets :

Cadets who have passed Intermediate or Senior Secondary (10 + 2 pattern) examination or
Pre-Degree /PreUniversity/Second year course of Graduate Degree Examination or Diploma
Course in Polytechnic are eligible for awards. The available scholarships in each Directorate
are to be equally divided between Arts / Commerce, and Science Stream cadets. In case of
non-utilisation of scholarships by cadets from any stream, the unutilised number will be
transferred to the other stream. Science stream cadets should have obtained 70% marks in
aggregate whereas Arts/Commerce Stream cadets should have obtained 60% marks. As in the
case of JD/JW cadets, SD/SW cadets also should have undergone NCC training as SD/SW
cadet for at least two full years continuously with a minimum of 80% attendance in each year
with exemplary discipline

 (3) Concession for SC / ST / OBC Cadets

Relaxation of 5% marks to the minimum laid down for each category is given. SC/ST/OBC
cadets are also eligible for a bonus of 10% on the marks actually scored if the cadet otherwise
obtains the minimum percentage as laid down.

 4) Extra Concession of 5% is given to cadets belonging to the States of J&K,


North East Region and Sikkim.
