Introduction to “Advanced Tong Ren: Step by Step Skills into Profound Insight
and Technical Mastery of the Acupuncture Doll

Tong Ren’s Advanced Training: Step by Step Skills into Profound Insight and
Technical Mastery

The idea for this book first germinated in 2005 when I purchased a DVD and some booklets
from Tom Tam who hails from Boston USA. In the DVD, Tom Tam demonstrated his ability to
positively affect the physiology of his audience of clients, by hammering out the treatments
on an acupuncture doll. The people in the audience gave testimonies of profound gratitude
to Tom Tam for his successful treatment of each person’s cancer struggle.

I immediately sent away for his booklets and was more than impressed by Tom Tam’s
clinical insights but was rather dismayed at how badly written the booklets were, and that
obvious mistakes, typos and contradictions were not edited out before they were put on the
market.

Despite my annoyance at the booklets, I acknowledge that Tom Tam represents the starting
point of the new medicine, which I will call Tong Ren Medicine. Tom Tam is the first
recorded person to actually demonstrate a technical mastery over the acupuncture
treatment doll, especially with some forms of cancer. Tom Tam has clinically proven what
the non-local medical philosophers have been theorising about for years but for whatever
reason, they were not able to deliver upon in their own right, in any practical and
meaningful way.

Tom Tam has also developed a new approach to acupuncture and body-work by combining
the clinical insights of both dermatome and chiropractic theory as well as his own unique
insights into bodymind medicine.

However, it was obvious through watching Tom Tam’s DVD that he was unable to teach the
majority of his students how to replicate his own clinical effectiveness. If the leader of a new
movement is unable to properly transfer his skills to his students, then, the movement isn’t
going to evolve much further is it? If you look at the DVD, his students at the demonstration
seem to be mindlessly banging away at their dolls with their magnetic hammers with no
sense of connection to the client they were meant to be focussing upon. In this regard, it is a
self-evident truth that sincerity is definitely no substitute for ability.

Of course, there are always the exceptional people who can embrace a new teaching and
make it wholly theirs and Tom Tam has produced several of these living examples in the U.S,
Canada and Russia. These practitioners of the new medicine have my utmost respect and I
am looking forward to meeting each of them in the near future.

For the past several years I have been teaching my beginner students of Chinese and
Tibetan medicine how to objectively and confidently affect someone at a distance. By
objectively, I mean that the method is immediately testable and measurable. To my
knowledge, no school of energy-medicine, other than my own, has been able to devise an
objective test of their claims of distant healing. Of course, this doesn’t minimise the amazing
results that some people are getting.

It was in my previous book “Mastering Medical Chi Gung” that I first publically described the
Tong-Ren Objective Test for Distant Affecting. I am sure by now you are curious as to what
this objective test is and exactly how to successfully do it.

In this objective test, there are initially three people involved. I will call them the giver, the
receiver and the supervisor.

The supervisor’s role is to ensure that the exercise is done with the necessary rigor and that
the correct protocols are followed. The Tong- Ren Objective Test is as follows:

The receiver lies on their back while the giver palpates an organ reflex that is located on the
abdomen. For this example, I will choose the liver organ reflex. Once the giver palpates the
liver area and can define how the area feels in terms of tightness, tenderness and
temperature, and the receiver can also define their response to the palpation, (which can
include responses like sharp or dull pressure pain, unusual sensations or tightness) we then
go to the end of the building, or even down the street a few blocks away, and then turn our
back upon the receiver. The giver then visualises the symbolic colour of the liver which is
green as well as aspirates the associated therapeutic sound of the liver which is SHUUU.

When these steps are completed, we return to the receiver and re-palpate the liver reflex
area. Coincidently, the receiver will feel their body’s response to the giver’s therapeutic
intention during the session, and when the receivers are asked to give accurate reportage of
their experience, they without knowing it, will identify exactly where the giver was working
on them.

I am able to teach the basic to advanced skills of distant affecting to anyone who wants to
learn them. And because my students are taught this method of energy-medicine via the
twin pillars of intellectual and perceptual rigor, and that everything must be immediately
testable, thus provable, my students quickly emerge as both confident as well as very
competent practitioners.

It was Tom Tam’s work that encouraged me that now was the time to merge the skills and
insights of both Buddhist and Daoist medicine and Iron Kilaya and Red Yogini mind training
and sensory skills into a unified and fully integrated body of knowledge. This new body of
knowledge is called Tong Ren, which is the abbreviation of my name, Tong Ren Dao.

Tom Tam calls his work Tong Ren after the bronze-man, a life-sized model that was made for
locating the body-mind points along the channels. This model was commissioned by the
Empreror Ren Zong in 1026 CE.

The Tong Ren I use is different to Tom Tam’s. The words are the same but the Chinese tones
are not the same, and therefore the meanings greatly differ. My name is from the thirteenth
insight (hexagram) of the I Ching, “Fellowship with the People”. The adoption of this name
came about when I decided to bring an end to a long period of personal seclusion and begin
teaching my current apprentices.

Although this work has been inspired by Tom Tam, this book with humility supercedes his
seminal writing. To para-phrase an old saying “it is from upon the shoulders of giants we
achieve even greater things”.

In my Tong Ren Medical Style, there are a number of unique approaches to treating your
friends, relatives and professional clients. When you know what you are doing, you
generally need very little effort to heal people of their various signs and symptoms of un-
wellness. Your ability to heal is based upon your confidence as a person, your technical
understanding of what you are doing, and also, your ability to connect and commune with
the person that you are treating. This is true for when you are treating someone via the doll,
on the phone, on skype, or face to face.

In the moments of healing, it is as if a spontaneous wave of basic human goodness flows in

communion from you to the person you are treating. In this place of mutual presentness
and communion, almost any dis-ease process can be dis-empowered and true healing
begun. True healing is defined as the clearing of the signs and symptoms of a dis-ease
process as well as restoring the strength and brightness to the person’s inner self or spirit.
True Healing can sometimes take just a moment, but generally it takes a few days, or weeks
to effect.

Practitioners of Tong Ren Medicine should have a well rounded character, be able to take
themselves lightly, have their feet firmly on the ground and enjoy a strong and healthy self-
image. An ideal Tong Ren Medicine practitioner will be able to stand alone yet take firm and
tender care of the world around them.

One of the first things that I look for in a person when I meet them is the health and
strength of their self-image, or the amount of false-pride or self-importance they carry
around with them-selves. Most people with false-pride or self-importance mistake their self-
view of themselves for having a good self image. Self-importance and the need to
4

misrepresent your self are definite indicators of someone who emotionally, spiritually and
civically dishonest with themselves and those around them. We are all equal in value
participating parts of a whole that live upon our wonderful and imperilled planet. No one is
more important than anyone else.

In this book on the Tong Ren Medicine there are nine levels of step by step skills into the
profound insights and technical mastery of this healing system that belongs to the Tong Ren
School in Australia and New Zealand. Each of these levels will be briefly described below.

Level One covers the basics of awakening and energising your hands.

Having hands that are full of power and aliveness will make a big difference in your healing
ability as well as your martial projection skills. Hands that are full of sensitive vitality are
achieved by training them daily, just like learning how to play a musical instrument or
competently using tools.
These skills have nothing to do with the silly and extremely self-important reiki
attunements. You cannot buy a masters degree anywhere except in diploma mills on the
internet and also within the reiki community. Reiki is merely a franchise to peddle phony
attunements to the gullible.

If you look up reiki attunements on Scribd you will bemusedly laugh at the utter nonsense
that is being peddled as genuine transmission.

The next subject covered is the ‘daily training of the hands’ so that they begin to be truly
alive. This includes drills in scanning the body prefaced both perceptual and intellectual
rigor; general and local harmonising of the body/mind, the extraction of sick or congested
psychic matter, and re-energising specific areas with the Buddha palm.

Next comes “getting to know and communing with your doll” which includes a number of
skills training exercises. These training exercises will provide you with the necessary skills in
order to be effective in treating people and animals via the doll. Finally, there four easy and
effective ways through which you treat people and animals via the doll and begin to get
results and gain confidence in your growing new found ability.

Level Two covers firstly learning tactile sensitivity as well as learning how to accurately
interpret what you are receiving from your energy-tactile/feeling sense. Also covered are
the different kinds of sensations that you will be likely to experience, as well as the various
sensations of ‘sick’ energy that you will sometimes experience from a client. And lastly, the
Tong Ren Buddha palm is taught in a slightly shortened version of the original method that I
created.

Tong Ren Buddha palm was designed by me in order to restore energy-medicine back to its
grounding in anatomy and body/mind physiology. Reiki and other palm healing movements
have made such a silly mess in their claims of universal energy, angels and guides working
5

with them, for them or under them, and the fantasy of so-called ascended masters. As I say
to those who peddle such nonsense, “if you have all of that help, why aren’t you curing
major diseases every day, instead of just providing a level of relaxation and nurturing”.

Within the Tong Ren Buddha palm are many practical exercises through which you gain even
more testable skills in Tong Ren Medicine.

Level Three
Within Level 3 the advanced Tong Ren skills of objective and subjective empathy training are
covered in depth. These unique skills relate to being able induce a wide range of emotional
states which enables you to truly understand what your clients are really feeling, and as
well, being able to induce the various weather-like sensations and feelings of heat, cold,
dryness, wetness and windiness. These represent some of the secret keys to successful Tong
Ren Medicine practise.

Next you will learn to work intimately with the organs, limbs and tissues of your clients.

Beyond this, you will learn to how to use ‘tapping therapy’ upon the sixteen muscle bands of
Tong Ren Medicine. Working with these muscle bands will enable you to break up tight and
congested muscle tissue as well as treating the various regions of the body and their
specifically associated internal organs.

Lastly, you will learn how to put together treatments by learning about the ‘building blocks’
that make up the most powerful formulas in Chinese and Tibetan medicine. These building
blocks unite into the Youthful Vitality which alone will successfully treat the following
conditions:

Shortness of breath

Too tired to speak

Weak voice

Loss of appetite

Weak digestive power

Chronic diarrhea

Dizziness

Spontaneous sweating

Palpitations
6

Nervous tension

Level Four
In Level four, the Tong Ren Medicine unique method of clearing pain, blockage, tension and
weakness form the chest and abdomen is covered in depth. This is an extremely effective
treatment for all abdominal problems whether they are either acute or chronic in nature.

Level Five
In level five, we go deeper into the clinical/powerful treatments of Tong Ren Medicine. You
will learn how to restore the core energies of the body/mind, learn about the special
treatments of the great medical master Wang Le Ting. As well, you will learn how to use the
secret ‘distant release points’ method unique to Tong Ren Medicine.

Level Six
In level six, more of the unique Tong Ren Medicine treatment methods are revealed. These
include the one hundred and thirty specific treatment points for dis-eases, and as well, the
hidden methods of treating problems of the muscles, joints, nerves and ligaments. Lastly,
there are special point combinations for the treatment of a wide range of emotional
problems.

Level Seven

as the clinical experience and scholarship of Tong Ren Dao. The treatment indications for
each point are listed under a number of easy to use headings which include:

Point Category

Point Functions

Functional

Pain

Sensation

Spiritual Emergency

Palpation

I reveal many secrets in this book, especially in the way I train my apprentices and students.
These secret methods and insights will help you to formulate the deeper questions that may
already be taking shape inside of you. When you can ask these questions, then I will take
you to the other levels of accurate theory and profound skill.

This is the true path of medicine. To be truly a healer then you must embody the path, living
it in most of the moments of your life.
