DEDICATION

I highly dedicated this piece of work to my parents Mr. Herbert C. Ramos and

Mrs. Mary Conception P. Ramos thank you for all the support that you’ve given

especially with my studies and who teaches me that even the largest task can be

accomplished if it is done one step at a time. To the people who believed that I could do

it, to my friends who support me morally. With the help of this narrative it will prove that I
myself are in the middle of the road to the destination called success.

To my adviser Ma’am ANGELIE R. ANTONIO and the people I met during my

On the Job Training Thank you, for believing in me, encouraging me, strengthening me
that makes me a productive student.
Chapter I
Introduction

On the job training is one way by which we students are given an opportunity

to apply the theories and computations that we have learned from school. It also

helps us to obtain applicable knowledge and skills by performing in actual work

setting. It is also a form of job instruction that occurs directly at the worksite while

the employee learning is doing his or her job (or working alongside and learning

from a more experienced worker). For us students, on-the-job training provides

opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the

real tools, equipments, and documents. In effect, the workplace becomes a

development venue for us student trainee to learn more about our chosen field and

practice what we have learn from academy. The trainees are also a good way to

help employees of the company to extend their patience when it comes to training

the interns on how to handle their work. The management also trains them how to

share what they know and be open to questions. Therefore, the internship also

becomes a way in training for possible supervisors or executives of the company.

Chapter III
Narration of Experiences

On my first day of work immersion I was assigned by the HR of the hospital at the
Nurse Station 1, the nurses that is assigned there was very approachable and nice I did
not expect that they are that approachable because when I saw them they are very busy
taking care of the patients that is admitted at the hospital specially the medicines. They
started to inform me and taught me to the things they usually do or their daily routines
specially when taking a round at the patients to take some vital signs like the blood
pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration. I’m happy because at my first day I already
learned something and in my second day I still had the same routine as the first day we
take rounds at the patients around ten o’clock in the morning and one o’clock in the
afternoon, when we take some rounds I am enjoying it because I see patients. On my
third day a nurse approached me and taught me on how to make a cotton balls and I’m
enjoying it because I only spend time at making cotton balls while waiting to take a rounds
again and by ten o’clock in the morning the nurse called me to go with her to take some
rounds at the patients and after the rounds I continued to make some cotton balls then
after a few minutes she asked if I want to plot the vitals of the patients and of course I
agreed immediately and she taught me on how to plot at first it was confusing but after
while I got it too and I enjoyed it because I feel like I’m a doctor checking and plotting their
vitals, then after plotting the vitals of the patients the nurse approached me again and she
asked me if I want to cut some papers it is like a ticket but for the medicines of the patients
so that they will know the schedules on what time they should give the medicines of the
patients and so that they are not confused about what medicine they are giving. On my
fourth day at the station the routine is still the same and it was not busy because the
nurses took care of it very well, the nurses always include me in rounds and they still
explaining me all the details and the things that is new to me, on my fifth day I was only
on half day duty because I took an entrance exam at USM, after taking the exam I went
straight at the hospital and when I get there I noticed that they are so busy and it’s
because many patients were discharged I helped them at taking care of the medicines of
the patients and they also ordered me to take the medicines at the pharmacy then when
I came back at the station they asked me again if they asked me again if I could bring the
patient's charts to the billing station and I said yes because I’m happy that in a simple
ways I can help and ease their work, after five minutes I came back again at the station
and the nurse told to take a look on how many patients are left and I’m shocked because
out of twenty five patients there are only eight left, I’m happy because many more patients
will not have difficulty especially in hospital fees and finally it is my last day when that
happened because for sure it’s going to be very boring.

When my second week at the hospital the HR Manager of the hospital assigned
me at the laboratory and I’m with my classmates already Jeff Pablo and Shahara Diwan,
I’m so happy because finally I’m at the laboratory which is I exactly really want because
it’s very exciting and I’m curious on how to take the test of the blood, urine, feces and of
course I want to learn how to venipuncture. On my first day at the laboratory I met the on
duty MedTech’s tthere which is Ma’am Charlene and Sir Marvin they are so approachable
and very nice specially in answering our questions about the hematology section, clinical
chemistry, URI-PARA and last is the microbiology. Sir Marvin taught us on how to check
the blood type where there are the three anti’s which is the anti-a, anti-d and anti b and
he also taught us on how to use the hematology machine he explained to us that in the
hematology machine we will know the complete blood count of a patient the after
explaining to us about the hematology section moved at the clinical chemistry which you
will determine the fasting blood sugar, creatinine, uric acid and etc. after a few minutes
we move at the URI-PARA which we tried to test here about the urine and feces, Sir
Marvin taught us how to test some urine by using the unicolor-test strips we used it to
know the pH, specific gravity, sugar and the albumin but first we should determine first if
the urine is clear, hazy or turbid then after than we put the urine at the centrifuge and wait
for five minutes after that we put it in the glass slide and Sir Marvin used the microscope
to find any bacteria but so far no bacteria have been found, after we tried at the URI-
PARA we moved at the microbiology and there we met Ma’am Charlene she is the head
of the microbiology but she didn’t explained everything to us because she said it’s very
complicated but Ma’am Nora helped me understand some things because about
microbiology because we did some blood culture by cooking some chocolate agar with
the mix of expired blood she explained to me the use of that she said it was for the
bacteria. I helped her to put the chocolate agar and an expired blood with the mixed of
chocolate agar at the plates we prepared, but she didn’t explain so much about what we
did because even her told us it’s very complicated so that I stayed silent and I continued
on helping her. On the

Professional Readings

Medical Technologist
Medical Technologists is a lab worker who has received at least 4 years of formal
college or university education (e.g. a bachelor of science degree in medical technology)
and training in various techniques in clinical pathology, hematology, microbiology,
chemistry, blood banking, immunology, and other areas of the lab. It is also a highly skilled
health professional who tests and analyzes blood, other body fluids, and tissue samples.
Medical technologists are responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment used
to analyze specimens and ensuring that tests are completed in a correct and timely
manner.

The role of a medical technologist may be determined by the branch of pathology

their lab specializes in but is otherwise only limited by the tools they are provided.
Regardless, it is purely diagnostic. In clinical pathology, the technologist would conduct
and oversee lab tests on body fluids. The tests are performed to identify markers for
infectious and non-infectious diseases. In Procedural Expertise medical technologists are
responsible for preparing tissue samples, slides, and cultures for the pathologist to
examine, streamlining the diagnostic process and allowing for faster lab results. In larger
facilities, technologists will perform more exacting tasks, such as molecular, genetic, or
genomic testing. They will also step in when confronted with diagnostic challenges,
including uncommon or contradictory lab findings.

The training that medical technologists undergo provides them the insights needed
to know which testing methodologies, tools, and agents are most appropriate for each
case. Medical technologists typically work under a pathologist but may be independently
tasked to operate a lab itself. Among their duties, medical technologists will oversee the
work of lab technicians in addition to managing their own duties.
Although the pathologist is ultimately in charge of the lab and its staff, the medical
technologist will usually be the one who ensures that the lab operates smoothly, safely,
and properly on a day-to-day basis. This includes setting up, calibrating, and sterilizing
lab equipment, as well as analyzing and checking the accuracy of lab reports.

Most medical technologists operate behind the scenes and do not have direct
contact with patients. The health professionals generally tasked with obtaining specimens
are phlebotomists and lab assistants. Other specimens are delivered directly to the lab
by doctors and surgeons.
Nuggets of Wisdom

When you lose, don’t lose the lesson. We all know that we make mistakes, we
fail and we think that we want to give up but it’s not the reason to easily give up on your
life because in every mistakes and in every failures it has a lesson that we should take
because that lesson will teach us on how to be strong and face or problems.
