Pessimism

“Even the most confident and outspoken people have some things about themselves that
they are not happy or satisfied with”. Many people actually aware of this problem but sometimes
they cannot escape from that problem. It is something that they grew up with and eventually
becomes their prison. In some case, insecurities can be developed into pessimism, and believe it
or not, pessimism is mostly found in teenage life. Teenager is often exposed to negative thinking
about themselves that is caused by their own mindset. They often thought that they are not good
enough for other people and societies, until they felt oppressed by it. After having that mindset
for a long time, it eventually became a habit for them, to the point that they didn’t expect
something to work well according to their expectation. This condition is called pessimism.
Pessimism is divided into two types, defensive and dispositional, whereas the defensive types
tended to of anticipate the worst, even when you have evidence that the worst won't happen.
While dispositional pessimism refers to the general tendency to have negative expectations about
future events.

So what happens if you keep harness this kind of lifestyle? Is it actually good or bad? Of
course it’s bad. The possible outcome is that most likely, you will find yourself in a situation
where you felt that you are no longer needed by anyone else, therefore you decide that you will
not make any contribution to any works in a mindset that even if you do it, there will be no one
appreciating it, and you would mostly never want to tried something first or scared to.

Although it might sounds bad, but actually there are one advantage that you could get, a
benefit for being a pessimist, decreasing your anxiety. When you spend some time to look at the
negative side of a situation, you avoid a false sense of security and deal with the very real
possibility that everything won't go as you hoped it would, therefore the reality that will hit is not
as much as scary it would be.

But do you think that having the characteristic of a pessimist is good? Here’s some
disadvantages that you could really get for being a pessimist
1. depression and other mental and emotional problems.

The effects of pessimism are far greater that it can cause depression. There’s a haunting
feeling that things will go wrong or nothing good will ever happen, that can trigger depressive
thoughts, and it all eventually be the roots to more serious problems like chronic pain, anger,
insomnia, poor diet and other mental and emotional problems.

2. It can lead people to make poor choices in life.

Pessimistic people rarely make choices in their lives and if they do, it's usually not out of
concern for the future, because they don't believe that things will turn out right in the first place.
It is one of the reasons why they are less concerned of their health, and so they can indulge in
unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking, eating unhealthy foods, and drugs, or even suicide.

So, do you still think that pessimism is just a small problem in this now day societies? Or
are you starting to think that it’s something that we need to take action of. From now on, push all
of that negative thinking aside, and start to think something that is more positive. Remember that
you are not alone. It might be hard to let go of that habit, but after knowing there are more
disadvantages that advantage, that it could even led to emotional problems, it is worth it to let
this go.

It doesn’t matter if you fail or rejected, the point is have you tried? Have you make it into
an action, and not just some thoughts in your head? Just try it first, because life is uncertain,
unless you want it to be that way.
