Lab Report 11

The document summarizes a lab report on studying the cop building mechanism of an RY-5 ring frame. The key parts of the building motion assembly are described, including the shaper wheel, shaper shaft, worm wheel, chain drum, lifting lever, and heart cam. A diagram of the winding up mechanism is also included. Through observing the machine in operation, the student learned that the building motion provides a complex system for varying the winding length and chase length of the cop. The heart cam rotates continuously, driving the lifting lever which moves the rachet wheel and bobbin rail via a chain to gradually wind the yarn onto the bobbin in a tapered shape.

1. Title :
Study of the cop building mechanism on RY-5 ring frame.

2. Abstract :

In this experiment, observation of cop building mechanism was carried out at RL-
5 ring machine.. The mechanism of building motion was comprehend. Different parts and
functions of builder motion was also observed.

3. Objectives:
 To observe building motion mechanism.
 To observe winding mechanism.
 To observe the chase length mechanism.
Objective of Building Motion
 To provide reversing motion of the bobbin rail.
 To make the tapering shape of the bobbin.

4. Introduction :
Ring Spinning is the oldest of the present day spinning processes. Fiber material is
supplied to the ring-spinning machine in the form of roving. The fiber mass of the roving
is reduced by a drafting unit. The twist inserted moves backwards and reaches the fibers
leaving the drafting unit. The fibers lay around one another in concentric helical paths.
The normal forces encountered by the fibers enhance the adhesive forces between the
fibers and prevent fibers from flying or slipping past each other under the tensile strain.
Ring spinning is a comparatively expensive process because of its slower production
speeds and the additional processes (roving and winding) required for producing ring
spun yarns. Ring spun yarns produce high quality and are mainly produced in the medium
range, with a small amount produced in the coarse count range.

Objective of Ring Frame
 To draft the roving fed to the ring frame to convert roving into very fine strand
called yarn.
 To impart strength to the yarn by inserting the necessary amount of twist.
 To collect twisted strand called yarn onto handy and transportable package by
winding the twisted thread on a cylindrical bobbin or tube.

8. Results :
Building motion is a complex system for varying the winding length as well as
chase length.

9. Discussion :
The main component of this mechanism is heart cam which rotates continuously.
A lifting lever is attached with this cam which moves up and down and done two tasks.
The one is to move rachet wheel forward by one teeth and the second task of this lever is
to move the chain which links which the bobbin rail. When the chain moves as a result

5
the bobbin rail moves. The bobbin winding is carried out in step wise. After each up and
down movement the bobbin rail covers some fixed amount of displacement. For this
displacement, a rachet wheel is installed which rotates and wind the chain on chain drum
so that the length of chain becomes reduced and the bobbin rail moves upward.

The rachet wheel have different number of teeth but having constant diameter. After one
movement of lifting lever, rachet wheel moves forward by one teeth and wind some
amount of chain on chain drum. The number of teeth was selected on the basis of count
of yarn.

A depressing piece is installed on chain pulley A which helps of winding at edge points.

10. Conclusion :
The function of building mechanism of the ring frame is to wind the yarn on
through out bobbin length. By this practical we learn about the building mechanism of
ring frame practically.
