1. In the beginning, when nothing had names, Apsu and Tiamat gave rise to the first gods. 2. Lahmu and Lahamu emerged and were named. They grew greatly and Anshar and Kishar formed above them and surpassed them in importance. 3. Anshar made Anum his equal and heir, and Anum begot Nudimmud who then ruled over the older generation of gods.
