Anti-Pollution Movement

Pakistan faces significant environmental issues due to deforestation and pollution. The percentage of forested areas in Pakistan is only 4.5%, much lower than the 20% standard in developed countries. Continuous cutting down of trees for trade and fuel has led to a 70% reduction in forests. This loss of trees is causing soil erosion, with fertile soil washing into dams like Mangla and Tarbella, reducing their water storage capacity. Deforestation is also increasing temperatures by reducing snowfall on glaciers. With less water in rivers like the Indus, drinking water is becoming more polluted, causing over 25,000 deaths annually according to one report. Global warming is causing glaciers like Biafo Glacier to recede

ANTI-POLLUTION MOVEMENT

Pakistan is very famous country due to its three ranges of mountains i.e. Himalaya,
Karakorum and Hindukush ranges. Tourists are attracted towards these vast ranges which are
helping in increasing foreign exchanges. The percentage of forests in developed countries is
not less than 20% but in Pakistan it is not above than 4.5%. This is because of continuously
cutting of trees from these forests. These trees are helpful in preventing areas from floods,
they provide vegetation to cattle and its wood is also used for many medicines. People are
regularly cut the trees on the name of trade which causes 70% reduction of trees. Due to this
loss fertile soil is also float away with the water to the dams. Mangla and Tarbella dams are
seriously affected due to that soil, sand and concrete, which makes them useless. It is a heavy
loss where on one hand we are losing fertile soil which is prepared in hundreds of years and
on the other hand this soil is been congregate at the bottom of the dams which reduce the
capacity of dams and making them useless. As dams are not working well so they are fail in
generating electricity and people are troubled to pay for electricity. Due to the condense of
trees in forests the temperature is increasing year after year which causes the reduction of
snowfall on glaciers and ultimately lessening of water. As it is said that 75% of earth is
composed of water but 3% of it is providing fresh water in the form of streams and rivers. In
Pakistan River Indus is the only source of water but due to poisonous metals and agricultural
and chemical compounds it is decreasing. According to World Environment Monitoring
System report 25000 deaths are caused only due to polluted water. River Indus has water of 5
glaciers where as flow of water is reduced due to the reduction in glaciers which are affected
by global warming. One example of this is Biafo Glacier which is 1km recede because 80%
forest is eliminated there. Trees not only absorb water but also evaporate to make the air
balanced with moisturizer. By some consultation it is appears that in some areas where 45
years back snowfall were 1and half feet now there is not more than 3 inches. Barado Glacier
is also come into view as there is also decreasing the level of water from 5 or 6 years. It is
appear that as people of northern areas are not provided by the supplies that are the reason
they used to cut trees for trades and fuel purposes. Unfortunately there are not adequate
remedies for this loss but for current needs small lakes should be shaped so that they decrease
the flow of water which causes vaporization which results in rains and snowfalls which
ultimately means vegetation. Secondly, by the expert consultation growth of artificial glaciers
are also acknowledged. For China it is said that in 2060 they will lose their 65% glaciers
when their population will b above 2 billion and which will cause famine. Due to
deforestation and global warming we are also losing our glaciers and results will b the same
as for China. Whereas, according to Green peace report in 2020 3caror deaths will b caused
by starvation.
