THE BRAVE KNIGHT
It was a foggy, winter night. Nothing was too visible as there was a dense forest all around. A knight, after
winning a battle was on his way home. He had been wandering for long. He was sad as he had lost his way
home. Thus, he decided to take a short cut through the forest.
The forest was dark, deep and spooky, but the knight was not scared of it. It was already getting dark. While
passing by, he saw a twinkling light at a distance. He got off his horse and went close to the light. He was
surprised to see little strange creatures. They were neither dwarfs neither small men. When he saw closely,
they were cute, little elves. They had little bodies and ears like a bunny.
They looked at him and smiled. “What brings you here?” asked the one who seemed to be the oldest of them.
He told them that he had lost his way home and was looking for someone to help. The elves looked at each
other and then said to him, “We can help you find your way home, provided you do something for us.”
The knight agreed. One of the elves said, “A witch has taken over our beautiful land, Elverland, and we were
thrown out from there as she wanted to live there. As you are a knight, we want you to fight the witch and get
our land back for us.”
The knight felt a bit frightened now, but agreed to help. One of the elves took out a bottle of a strange potion.
“Here, drink this and you will be in our land. Once you kill the witch by piercing your sword through her
heart, we’ll be there. Now close your eyes and drink it!”
The soldier drank the strange potion in a gulp and fell asleep. When he woke up, he found himself in a
strange but a beautiful land. There, at one corner, under the gem tree, sat a witch who was staring at the
knight. She whispered a spell on him and he became her slave.
Now the witch asked him to do all the bad things she wanted to do. The knight had become a cruel man now.
But this was not for long.
One day, when he was sleeping, a few drops of water fell from the gem tree. Suddenly, when he woke up, he
remembered the reason why he was there. He was out of the witch’s spell now. Just then he heard the witch
calling him. Now was the best time to get rid of the witch.
He went to her and before she could say something, he took out his sword and stabbed her direct in the heart.
In a moment, the witch vanished in thin air.
Just a minute later, the knight heard the voices of joy and laughter. The elves were back to their land,
Elverland. They decided to have a feast that night, but the knight insisted on going back home.
He was asked to do the same as he had done before – drink the potion, and close his eyes. Suddenly when he
woke up he found himself at the doorstep of his house. He was so grateful, happy and delighted. Finally, he
was back home.
