The Adventure of Shackleton

Ernest Shackleton led an expedition to cross the Antarctic continent in 1915. His ship, the Endurance, became trapped and crushed in ice. Shackleton kept the crew alive for over a year as they camped on ice floes until they reached land. He then took a small group on an incredibly dangerous voyage to get help, traveling over 800 miles in an open lifeboat. After multiple failed attempts, Shackleton finally rescued all 21 crew members, demonstrating extraordinary leadership and perseverance in the face of immense challenges.

· We as children have plenty of dreams to reach and most of them are of what we are facing to. It can
be being the first place in the soccer group or just being the best in the class or even in the school.
Like Shackleton he had many dreams and challenges to fulfill, and one of them was to pass through
the Antarctic to one end to the other, and you would say that that’s the craziest thing you have ever
heard, but that’s what produce in someone the fact of a tentative goal in front of you, make crazy
stuff.
· Like all the things, there's always good and bad things that will happen during the experience. Sir
Shackleton wasn't in the mood to quit his dream, he wasn't like those people. In 1915 the
Endurance crushed and sunk. He told to all these that they will need to continue even so if their life
were in risk. On that time, a famous phrase of him was “Difficulties are just things to overcome, after
all.” ladies and gentlemen, that’s right, there are just things to overcome

Process
1915-1917
· Considered the mayor expedition in the Heroic age of Antarctic exploration.
· In 1914, Ernest Shackleton decides to join and lead the expedition

· His ship, the Endurance, was crushed by ice.


· Shackleton decides to wait, but on the night of October 27 th, 1915, the ice broke the ship.
· He knew that if they had stayed there for more time it will happen the deaths of the crew.
· He decides to throw the boats to the water and somehow gain firm terrain.
· They moved to Elephant Island.
· Shackleton knew that even if they move to another place, they will die doing nothing.
· He decides to pass through the passage of Drake, the most dangerous sea.
· He tells the crew to wait for him, that he will return.
· He arrives and commented what had happened to him, but no one recognized him, because
everyone though he had died.
· It took 4 attempts to get there. 3 of their ships were shot down by ice, but even though it failed he
never gave up. The 4 ship finally manage to arrive and rescue its 21 crew.

WHAT DOES SHACKLETON TEACH US?


· No matter how much you had failed, you need to keep trying.
· He assumed what was happening and adapted to reality. He assumed defeat and refocused the
objective: Keep the entire crew safe. And take them home. He was responsible for each and every
one of them. To do this, keeping morale intact was part of his leadership.
