Paris
Paris is the capital and most populous city of France, it's situated on the Seine River, in the north
of the country and can be seen as the most interesting city of Europe and probably even as one of
the most amazing city’s worldwide and is one of Europe's major centres of finance, diplomacy,
commerce, fashion, science, and the arts.
People from all over the world travel to Paris to discover and experience this fairy-like city. Paris
is the city of love, inspiration, art and fashion. As a tourist, you can visit the most popular
districts: Invalides or Chaps-Elysées which is an important comercial centre. The centre of Paris
contains the most visited monuments in the city, including the Notre Dame Cathedral and the
Louvre Les Invalides, where the tomb of Napoleon is located, and the Eiffel Tower. Like
painting and sculpture, Paris has also attracted communities of photographers, and was an
important centre for the development of photography.
Also, Paris is the home of the largest opera houses of Paris are the 19th-century Opéra Garnier.
Bastille Day, a celebration of the storming of the Bastille in 1789, the biggest festival in the city,
is a military parade taking place every year on 14 July on the Champ Elysees. Paris is the home
of the most visited art museum in the world, the Louvre, as well as the Musee d'Orsay.
The Musée d'Orsay and Musée de l'Orangerie are noted for their collections of French
Impressionist art, and the Pompidou Centre Musée National d'Art Moderne has the largest
collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe. The historical district along the Seine in
the city centre is classified as a UNESCO Heritage Site.
Popular landmarks in the centre of the city include the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris and the
Gothic royal chapel of Sainte-Chapelle, both on the Île de la Cité; the Eiffel Tower, constructed
for the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889; the Grand Palais and Petit Palais, built for the Paris
Universal Exposition of 1900; the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Élysées, and the Basilica of
Sacré-Coeur on the hill of Montmartre.
Paris received 23 million visitors in 2017, measured by hotel stays, with the largest numbers of
foreign visitors coming from the United States, the UK, Germany and China. It was ranked as
the third most visited travel destination in the world in 2017, after Bangkok and London.
