II. INTRODUCTION
There are two types of tumbler machine, the rotary and the vibratory.
The two just varies in its some application and of the way the process goes.
This prototype design entitled “prototype of rust eliminating vibration
tumbler” is one of these tumbler machines. In a vibratory tumbler,
eliminating rust can become easier by its very rapidly shaking and by
rubbing of rocks inside with each other. So the rocks in the vibratory tumbler
do not change shape very much. They stay close to the same shape as when
you put them in.
In the tumbling process, a preformed media is the rigid agent that
abrades the given part and removes the unwanted material. The
advantage of this media is the inclusion of a bonding agent that
continuously recedes and exposes more abrasive particles. In result, they
maintain a relatively consistent removal rate over at least have the size of
its shape.
There are many applications of a tumbler, among these are deburring,
cleaning, deflashing, edge radiusing, polishing, burnishing, removing the
machine marks, sanding, and scale or rust removal. The design will just focus
on scaling or rust removing mainly for smaller kind of metals using rounded
rocks as its tumbling media.
Background of the project
Rust traditionally refers to the formation of iron oxides in iron-based
metals and alloys although other types of metal face similar kinds of oxide
corrosion. It is formed through the combination of water and oxygen which
causes the iron oxides to form a stiff, non-reacting coating along the
material’s surface. Once exposed to rust, the rusting continues until all the
material’s oxygen, water, and carbon dioxide are extended, or the material is
dissolve entirely.
In engineering field many kinds of metals are usually used like bolts
and nuts and trusses and etc. ranging from smallest to biggest metals are
always made of steel. These since steel made hardwares are often exposed
to corrosion, eliminating them involves many associated problems. Manual
cleaning and eliminating rust are time consuming and labor intensive. Since
manual cleaning methods include power brushing and sanding with abrasive
tool, it damages the surface of the tools and results to surface irregularity.
Because practical care must be taken to avoid damage, manual cleaning
requires time. Manual cleaning also cannot simply eliminate rust from inner
parts of smaller tools like bolts and nuts. Although there are many methods
of removing rust, physically or chemically, most methods are always
challenging requiring effort and time specifically on smaller hand held tools.
Since the problems associated with rust eliminating are mentioned
above, this project focuses on designing and developing of a low-cost
tumbler that eliminates rust specifically for tools on smaller hand held tools.
Since these are the most challenging tools to clean.

This machine has a rigid structure with an insertable separation table.
This machine is a general purpose vibratory finishing machine with a shallow
incline of process channel which is ideal for small parts and medium parts
deburring and polishing. This machine is possible for manual insertable
separation gate or customized with automatic pneumatic control. In addition,
the vibratory bowl equipped with large area separation screens. The hot
poured casting PU is very wear resistant.

Project objectives
The general objective of this study is to design and construct a
prototype of vibration tumbler.
This project is also focused to:
      a. Determine the different principles and operation related to vibration
         tumbler.
      b. Apply knowledge of vibration in actual situations/problems.
      c. Apply the concept of vibration of a particle/oscillating body.
Significance of the Project
The result of the project is useful to different schools and universities
since the prototype of vibration tumbler has more advantage than using
illustrations and images in explaining a specified concept. It is also
convenient since the project can be tested in actual and can be used in
diverse machine shop activities related to “Metal Polishing”. This project will
also benefit students/researchers, for them to gather related information and
ideas.

Working Principle
The working principle of vibration tumbler machine is simple. It consists of a
ring chamber or a container that holds the tumbling media (powdered steel,
ceramic, and graded stone) and the parts (workpiece to be clean). As the off-
center rotator starts vibrating, the tumbling media and workpieces start
colliding with each other, while rolling spirally forward. As the media comes
in contact with parts, their surface gets cleaned.

Method of Construction
The following procedures should be considered in constructing the
Prototype of vibration tumbler:
   Prepare all the materials needed.
Cut 2 plywoods into 10 cm by 10 cm dimensions using saw.
Using pen make a circle at the center of the plywood just enough to insert
    the motor.
Cut the circle to make a hole using electric saw.
After the hole is made insert the motor.
Using electric drill make 4 holes in every corner of the plywood based on
the required diameter of the bolts.
Assemble the offset element and attach it on the motor shaft.
Strip the insulation of the wire and connect it to the motor connection
    properly.
   Preheat the soldering iron.
After few seconds conduct tinning process by melting soldering lead to
check if the soldering iron is ready to use.
Solder the connection of the wire and the motor connection to assure that
    no loose connection during operation.
Using electrical tape insulate it to avoid short circuit.
Assemble the whole structure by attaching the plywood base and the
motor mounted plywood using washer, bolts and nuts inserted to the coil
    springs.
Using glue attach the rubber dampers on the top (mid center from mid
edge) of the motor mounted plywood.
Make hole in every rubber damper (center).
Place the tumbler on the rubber dampers to project the hole alignments
and mark it using pen as guide.
Using electric drill make a hole on the tumbler (on the markings)
Make a hole at the center of the tumbler where the bolt will be inserted to
serve as cover lock of the tumbler.
Attach the tumbler on the rubber damper using screw and screw driver.
Assemble the tumbler cover lock using bolts and nuts.
On the negative line wire, put the push button switch and solder it using
soldering iron and soldering lead and insulate it using the electrical tape.
Connect the output wires of the regulated power adapter to input wires of
the motor (DC positive to positive and negative to negative polarity).
