Topic Note: Identify Similar Figure


In these types of questions the students are given a particular image and are required to find the option
which is similar to the one given in the question.

One of the best way to solve such a question is to break down the given image into various objects.
For instance, for an image like the following, the two arrows, the triangle inside the shape, etc. can
be considered as separate objects.

Once the student classifies the objects, there are two important clues a student can use to solve
these kind of questions:
1) Study the relative position of various objects. Look at the relative position of various objects
in the question and also understand how that would change in the answer. This would help
eliminate a few options
2) Whether all objects which are present in the question, are included in the answer or not?

Sample Question:

 Find the option which match the image given in figure (x).

As explained above, lets assign certain objects / qualities in the given image. The three key ones I
can think of are 1) The entire image is black in colour and 2) The central figure is an octagon (has
8 sides) 3) The octagon is surrounded by a circle.

So if we look at point 1, clearly only option B and C remain, as they are the only images which are
fully black. Now between B and C, the only option which satisfies qualities 2 and 3 is option C and
hence option C is the right answer.
