BASIC  RULES  OF  SOCCER  
 
THE  PLAYING  FIELD  
 
The playing field is a rectangle of a maximum longitude of 120 meters and a minimum of
90 meters, and a width no bigger than 90 meters, and no less than 45.  
 
- Penalty Area  
 
- Goal Area    
 
- Penalty Mark: Located 11 meters from the center of the goal line  
 
-Center circle:  Located in the center of the field  
 
 
 
THE  BALL.  
 
The ball is spherical. The ball cannot be changed during the match without the referee's
permission.  
 
 

 
 
 NUMBER  OF  PLAYERS.  
 
The game is played by two teams, each consisting of no more than 11 players, one of whom
is the goalkeeper. In official matches, three changes can be made with substitutes.  
 
 
 
 
 
PLAYING  EQUIPMENT  
 
A player can not bring any dangerous object to other players. The basic required equipment
consists of five items that are the following:  
jersey or shirt, shorts, shin guards, socks and boots. Goalkeepers are the only ones allowed
to wear long trousers.  
 
 

 
   
 REFEREE.  
 
A referee should be appointed to lead each game. The referee shall enforce the Rules. The
referee will take note of any incidence, act as timekeeper, and will ensure that the game
meets the length regulation.  
 

 
 
 LINESMEN.  
 
Two linesmen are appointed to assist the referee to control the match. The line judges will
be provided with pins.  
 
 
DURATION  OF  MATCH.  
 
The  match  will  consist  of  two  45  minute  periods  and  a  15  minute  break.

KICKOFF.  
 
The choice of fields and kickoff will be decided by a coin flip. A goal cannot be made
straight from the kick-off.  
 
GOAL.    
 
A point is scored when the ball passes completely over the goal line between the goalposts
and under the crossbar and has not been thrown, carried or intentionally propelled by the
hand or arm.  
 

 
 
 
 
 
 
OFFSIDE.    
 
A player is offside if you are closer to the finish line opposite the ball when it is kicked.  
 
 
FOULS  AND  MISCONDUCT.  
 

A player who kicks, trips, hits, or pushes someone will be punished by a direct free-throw
awarded to the opposing team on the spot where the penalty was committed.  
 
   
PENALTY.    
 
The penalty will be shot from the penalty spot and, before it is done, all players, except
those will execute the penalty and opposing goalkeeper, must be inside the field of play but
outside the penalty area .
