To Whom It May Concern
I have had the pleasure of working with Nick Flores for over two years and he has left a
lasting impression on me for his passion for helping all students succeed not just the
student assigned to him, his work ethics, his friendly and kind disposition, and his drive to
get the job done well. He is a self-motivated and innovative educator who enjoys learning,
exploring new ideas, and continues in his quest to help all students. His assignment was to
support the needs of a student with Emotional Disturbance who was very verbally
aggressive and could resort to physical aggression at times. It was a very challenging
assignment; Nick however worked with this student patiently and diligently. The student
was behind in his academic performance and would interrupt the class multiple times
within an hour daily. Nick’s work with this student help him within two years to grow to
enjoy his time at Gibson, make friends, and interact with adults appropriately and with
respect. Nick used multiple behavioral management strategies and techniques to help the
student deconstruct his behavior, understand consequences and the rationale for changing
his behavior, and use a replacement behavior that was acceptable in a school environment.
The student is currently transitioning into 9th grade and will soon be able to eventually
work in a classroom without the intensive individualized support that Nick provided. Thus,
Nick’s time at Gibson ended with the end of the school year 2018-19 since the student has
now moved into the high school district. I was very happy to hear during our last
conversation that Nick is aspiring to be a teacher. He will definitely help students make
connections and find relevance in their learning and engage them to think creatively. Nick
has always taken the initiative in maximizing his time at work; he has attended all
professional development opportunities provided at the site, as well as performed his
professional responsibilities quickly and efficiently.
He acclimated very well to our school and helped build a positive culture as a positive
change agent and a firm advocate for student equity. I will not forget how one day he
participated in our Halloween costume contest and all our students were cheering very
loudly and happily for his costume. He was a hit with our students and continues to be well
liked by all our students ranging from middle to high school as well as staff. In addition to
working directly with students in his assignment as a paraeducator, he was also heavily
invested PBIS implementation. He understands the importance of consistency and a
systematic approach to interventions. He is a firm advocate of Positive Behavioral
Intervention Systems (PBIS) and has a passion for our role in the lives of our students.
Without hesitation, I highly recommend him for any job in the field of education. Please feel
free to contact me at 909-908-9800 or 909-931-5625 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
