Summary response essay
In King Tut's Family Secrets (2008), the Hawass discusses the use of technology to reveal the truth about King
Tutankhamun's family and explain the mystery of his death. In the lecture Humans to Mars, Dr Stofan (2017),
the former chief scientist of Nasa, discusses how NASA prepares human for investigation of Mars. Both author
and lecturer highlight the significance of technology in their findings.
Stofan (2017) discusses about her strong desire and commitment to explore Mars with her team. However, she
understands that a long journey to Mars requires not only the presence of new technologies but also the stability
of their health. They are currently focusing on some ways necessary to stay healthy with the launch of the
project called International Space Station (ISS). The main emphasis is put on nutrition and ocular health. To be
precise, they are finding out how they can grow nutritional plats in space and the way these pants behave in
microgravity. Meanwhile, as they are concerned about the possibility of some ocular problems the main causes
of such problems, namely radiation, are being analysed. The lecturer points out that once the solutions to be
abovementioned issues are implemented, they are most likely to be ready to take this long journey to Mars.
Initially, Hawass (2013) states his resistance to the conduct of scientific research on mummies, as well as the
need and importance of scientific research on the King’s remains. Once examining his mummy, the author
reveals some essential information regarding the mystery of his death. All the previously divulged mysteries are
not enough to reveal the mystery of King Tutankhamun's family or clarify the secret of his death. The Writer
makes a point that Scientists must use advanced technology to realize the causes and death of the king. These
scientists have begun to use CT scans, however after evaluating the results of the scan, they could not elucidate
the secrets of how or why the king died. The author mentions the king’s health and why the scientists
considered to separate DNA example from king’s bone tissue. In addition, the group used DNA samples from
ten other mummies to determine the other royal family members. Finally, he presents Ramses’s attempt to hide
the history of King Tutankhamun and his royal family, and the role of DNA research and the scholars
team in protecting the history of Tutankhamun's family.
The lecturer states that without advanced technologies, people cannot explore the space profoundly and it
should be invested. I think that investing in space exploration more important. This can expand our
technologies, build new industries and also explore the unknown. According to International Space Exploration
Coordination Group (2013), Funding in space not only led to technological and scientific advances, but also
benefited society in many spheres, especially medicine, environment, education, transportation, and technology.
Hence, considering the abovementioned points, the role of technologies in exploring other planets can be seen
as essential.
Hawass (2013) discusses the role of using technology and its significance is reflected in identifying human
history through discovering King Tut’s mummy. The main point highlighted in the article is associated with
author’s tendency to discover Tut’s mummy to realize what led to his death. While this could be contradicted
by many, I agree with the steps taken by the research team while discovering the mummy. Dries, Boom, and
Linde (2019) state that Development of archeology can help to create new abilities of local people, invest in
sustainable development and save ecological and national resources for next generations. Therefore, it can be
acceptable to conduct researches on historical things.
In conclusion,
Investing to the technology in space exploration as well as in archeology is vital in identifying human’s
prospect and retrospect respectively. Funding must be controlled by governments to keep balance.
