Quality Control/Inspection/Enduring Testing Manual

1. Pre-production meeting
1.1 Direct the factory to make samples according to customer’s pictures or drawing
and specification sheet.
1.2 Hold production meeting to brief all staffs concerned are fully aware of the
related customer’s quality expectation, ES quality assurance procedures, relevant
AQL standards, sample requirements, as well as specific packaging, lab-testing
and on site inspection testing requirement.
1.3 Discussion on important points & measures to be taken during parts preparation
& construction.

2. Program and Sample Review


2.1 Program and Sample Review meeting aims to have the QA personnel, production
and sales manager to get together to review the important program and orders on
hand, to anticipate and prevent problems. It also serves as a key communication
channel between the three departments to highlight changes, specifications, or
special requirements, etc

Relevant comments made during the meeting should be included in the briefing
sheet.

3. Briefing%Sheet%
3.1 Briefing+sheet+(Appendix+A)+is+an+indispensable+source+of+information+to+facilitate+QA+
personnel+to+perform+subsequent+inspections.+It+must+be+submitted+by+Sales+
department+to+QA+department+at+least+30+days+before+the+first+ship+date.+

Standard+briefing+sheet+should+include+the+copy+of+the+PO,+approval+sample+picture,+++++
packaging+requirement,+notes+on+critical+area+or+special+request,+comments+from+
customers.+

4. Product%Specification%
4.1 As+one+of+the+means+to+aim+at+quality+performance,+QA+manager+should+fill+out+
the+Product+Specification+Sheet+(Appendix+B)+which+includes+sketch+or+photo,+
line+drawings,+listing+of+the+actual+dimensional+and+physical+specification+of+
merchandise;+e.g.+net+weight,+thickness,+size,+volume,+shipping+marks,+parts+&+
accessories+etc.+

5. Production%Control/Enduring%Test%
5.1 Incoming%materials%Inspection%
It+is+the+responsibility+of+IQC+(Internal+Quality+Control)+to+conduct+sampling+
inspection+for+incoming+materials+&+parts.+
+
The+inspection+perform+by+OQC+shall+based+on+the+inspection+plan+criteria.+If+
customers+do+not+provide+the+criteria,+IQC+shall+prepare+the+criteria+to+define+the+
defects+that+fall+in+the+major+or+minor.+

5.1.1+Major+defect+

5.2 InJProcess%Inspection%
The+purpose+of+an+inUprocess+inspection+is+to+be+proactive+in+preventing+and+avoiding+
major+deviation+prior+to+the+product+being+completed+.The+inspection+should+be+
conducted+at+the+actual+production+site+during+the+production.+

It+is+the+responsibility+of+InUprocess+inspector+to+conduct+sampling+inspection+during+the+
production+run.+

Assembly%

Metal :
The weld shall be clean and smooth.
For all metal fabrication , edges must be smooth and free of excess solder , burrs and
sharp edges.
Rusting, corrosion or chipping is not allowed .
All metal fabrications are to be finished as indicated on the drawing, specification and
the approved samples.

Glass & Mirror :


Unless otherwise specified all glass must be tempered .
For glass table top, the glass top should fit flush to the edge of the table , the edge of the
tempered glass top should be polished . Silicone disks should be provided under the
glass top to prevent sliding .
All mirror shall be guaranteed against silver oxidation .Mirror glass must be safety
backed
Stone : .
The manufacture is to supply the highest quality stone/ granite/ marble top where
specified with a sub top support and sealer .
The surface shouldn’t have the hidden wound , weathering etc. defects. A flat polish
finish is to be provided unless specified otherwise .
All stone tops must be filled and have a sealed finish that is resistant to acid , alcohol and
stains .

Hardware and Accessories


All casegoods hardware and accessories are to be furnished and installed by the
manufacture and are to be as indicated on shop drawings .
All visible hardware is to match the specified decorative hardware finish.
All drawer and pull out shelves are to have concealed .
All handles should be beautiful in appearance, fine in fabrication. No rust in metallic
surface, no plating defects in coating layer , and no burrs sharp edges.

6. Final%Inspection%
To%be%carried%out%by%HQ%QA%Manager%personally%with%his%teams.%
Final+inspection+(Appendix+C)+will+only+be+conducted+if+the+merchandise+is+100%+
finished+and+at+least+80%+to+be+packed.+The+goods+to+be+packed+and+packaging+
according+to+buyer’s+instruction.+QC+officers+will+follow+through+all+the+necessary+
inspection+procedure.+For+all+the+furniture+orders,+preUshipment+inspection+will+be+
carried+out+after+the+Final+inspection.+The+preUshipment+inspection+of+furniture+is+to+
be+conducted+by+another+individual+(e.g.+Merchandiser)+as+opposed+to+QC+officer+
who+performed+the+final+inspection.+

6.1 Drop Test :
Carton drop test is applicable to all hardliner items.

Unless otherwise specified, two master carton randomly selected from the shipment will be drop-tested.

Hold the master carton in a horizontal position, pointing the testing panel to the concrete floor.

Drop the carton onto the concrete floor at the appropriate height.

Repeat the test for each of the 6 faces of the master carton. With an appropriate holding position,

the same procedure applies to 3 edges and 1 corner of tee same master carton.

The appropriate height to drop the carton is:


Gross weight of master carton Height from bottom of master carton to floor
0-20 pounds 30 inches
21-40 pounds 24 inches
Over 40 pounds 18 inches

6.2 Finish Materials Test


Finishing materials will undergo the following tests before approval

6.2.1 Test 1: Place a cup containing hot-water at a temperature of 100 degree Celsius on
the test surface for 15 minute. Then remove the cup and clean remove the water from the
surface with a tissue paper. The surface is then examined for any visible defects

Test 2: The finish must pass the cold water test. Some cold water is poured on the
finished Test surface and the water is maintained on the surface for 24 hours. The
Surface is then examined for any visible defects.

Test 3 : The finish must pass the acetone test. Three drops of clean acetone are placed on
the surface of the finish and covered with a shallow glass or plastic cover for 2 inches in a
diameter, for a period of 2 minutes. The surface is then checked for any visible defects

Test 4: Color adhesion (Cross cut tape test)


The products surface is covered with the 3M scotch brand book tape and pressed evenly
against the surface. It is then removed with a quick pull to ensure the adhesion of the
finish is acceptable.
