to each thought sensation
morning body remind me to remember you okay?
-----------
oh so today topic is about a special
00:03
exercise that mr. GU Jeff has mentioned
00:05
in a lot of places you can find it in
00:08
Beelzebub when when he speaks with
00:11
haseen and he advise it to talk to
00:15
himself every sunrise to each of his
00:18
parts okay you can also find this
00:20
exercise mentioned in views from the
00:22
real world and other private talks with
00:26
mr. good Jeff
00:27
so the exercise is about talking to
00:29
oneself how do we do this well it's
00:33
important to have a relation with your
00:35
part your inside parts also your body
00:37
your sensation so the idea is whenever
00:40
you you see yourself in a certain type
00:43
of sensation you just say to that
00:46
sensation remind me to remember you okay
00:52
so this creates a link between you
00:55
inside yourself the eye which wants to
00:59
remember and that particular sensation
01:02
of your body or that particular thought
01:05
if you if you notice that you have a
01:07
certain sort that is recovering to your
01:09
mind just say to that sort
01:12
remind me to remember you okay and when
01:14
I said say to that sort I mean just use
01:18
your voice okay not only inside but
01:20
outside just say it just like you are
01:24
addressing another person okay so do
01:27
this and you will see the results it's
01:30
interesting and it gives you a whole new
01:33
dimension to the work on oneself all my

"Views from the Real World" Early talks of Gurdjieff (audio reading)

THE PROCESS OF THE FOURTH WAY PART ONE

Gurdjieff said that the Fourth Way is a process of personal evolution which
consists of four recognisable stages. The aim, he said, is to be 'born', which is a
rediscovery of essence, and its growth into an individuality and the beginning of
real 'I'.

But he explained that, in order to be 'born', one must first 'die', which means to
free oneself from all petty attachments and identifications. What are these
attachments and identifications? They are attachments to imaginations, insults and
opinions of others, to one's own ego, to one's own strengths and failings, even to
one's sufferings, possibly to one's own sufferings more than to anything else.

But before one can 'die', one must 'awaken'. And indeed, awakening helps one to
deal with all those attachments and identifications. Because they are nothing more
than groups of 'I's. Every subject of your thoughts is surrounded by its own set of
'I's in you. To be awake means that your observer can see these 'I's as 'I's
occurring inside you. Awakening means that you can (begin to) observe that you
are not one person but that you are just those many 'I's.

To awaken means to know how utterly false and mechanical you are. Not merely to
recognise the truth of it but to actually see, feel, and be confronted with it
every minute of your life. And to accept that.

This is called recognising your own nothingness. Only when you recognise your own
nothingness, without lamenting it or being depressed about it, but simply accepting
the fact, only then can you say you have awakened.
But in order to awaken you first have to know that you are asleep. Being asleep
means believing all your 'I's about yourself. And of course if you believe those
'I's, you are probably believing thousands of other 'I's about other things as
well.

Work on awakening is a very long process of continually discovering one more group
of 'I's that you had not seen before, and separating from them.

So we have the four stages: 1) Knowing you are asleep; 2) Awakening; 3) Dying; and
4) Being born again

These stages are not entirely separate. Knowing you are asleep in one area of your
life leads to awakening but in that area only. This goes on, so that you are
awake in one area but not in another. Similarly, being able to give up one's
attachments in one area of life ('dying' to it), does not mean dying to everything,
though it does make the next time easier.

And indeed, you may sense the inklings of being 'born' before you have succeeded in
all areas of sleep, awakening and dying. It does not mean your work is over, but it
does give you encouragement to go on.

The work never ceases. You will be working on yourself for the rest of your life.

The exercise for this week is to be present, without imagination, while drinking
liquids. Beginning with reaching for the
cup, to tasting it, to putting the cup back down. As a reminder, we can use our
non-dominant hand.
Gurdjieff

***
The exercise this week was to, each day, write down one observation of the
emotional part of each of the four centers. bingo ?
If "emotional part" is not so clear, simply write down an observation of each
center.
What was your experience with this exercise?

The intellectual center is the slowest of the four centers. Its unit of operation
is words. Whenever we observe words, the intellectual center is involved.
Because it is slower, it is easily manipulated by the other centers, particularly
the emotional and instinctive centers. For example, if I become angry, words race
through my intellectual center, propelled by the strong wind of the negative
emotion.
Ideas and facts words - are the Is of the intellectual center.
My name, address, phone number are stored in the mechanical part, also known as the
Jack of Diamonds. Filling this part with facts is a focus of modern education.
The emotional part, or queen, is excited about ideas and enjoys learning new
subjects. It likes bookstores and libraries, Wikipedia and Google search.
The intellectual part, or king, is able to connect ideas together in a new way. It
does not give a ready response, like the Jack, but usually some time passes
before it arrives a formulation.

`THE FOURTH WAY AND ESOTERIC TRADITIONS STEALING

Thou shalt not steal. The Bible, Exodus 20:15

If you put deluded thoughts out of your mind through the power of self-awareness,
you will purify the six senses and prevent the appearance of the six rebels.
This is the precept against stealing. -- 14th c. Japanese Zen master Bassui, Mud
and Water

Seeing and hearing, emotions, desires, and opinions are all internal thieves. But
if the inner mind is awake and alert, sitting aloof in the middle of it all,
then these plunderers change and become members of the household. -- Hong Zicheng,
Caigentan (16th c. Chinese philosopher)

'Imagination' is one of the principal sources of the wrong work of centers (man has
four lower brains or centers: the moving, instinctive, intellectual or thinking and
emotional brain).

*** Each center has its own form of imagination and daydreaming, but as a rule both
the moving and the emotional centers make use of the thinking center which very
readily places itself at
their disposal for this purpose, because daydreaming corresponds to its own
inclinations. *** bingo? emotional center moves

Daydreaming is absolutely the opposite of 'useful' mental activity. 'Useful' in

this case
means activity directed towards a definite aim and undertaken for the sake of
obtaining a definite result. Daydreaming does not pursue any aim, does not strive
after any result.
The motive for daydreaming always lies in the emotional or in the moving center.
The actual process is carried on by the thinking center. The inclination to
daydream is due partly to the
laziness of the thinking center, that is, its attempts to avoid the efforts
connected with work directed towards a definite aim and going in a definite
direction, and partly to the tendency
of the emotional and the moving centers to repeat to themselves, to keep alive or
to recreate experiences, both pleasant and unpleasant, that have been previously
lived through or 'imagined.'
Daydreaming of disagreeable, morbid things is very characteristic of the unbalanced
state of the human machine. After all, one can understand daydreaming of a pleasant
kind and find logical
justification for it. Daydreaming of an unpleasant character is an utter absurdity.
And yet many people spend nine tenths of their lives in just such painful daydreams
about misfortunes which
may overtake them or their family, about illnesses they may contract or sufferings
they will have to endure. -- Gurdjieff, In Search of the Miraculous

When people get mixed up in acquired conditioning, the six senses trouble them and
the seven emotions run wild. It is like when there is trouble in the land, with
rebels causing disturbance;
if there is no way of rooting them out by punishment and execution, it is
impossible to restore peace in perilous times. Therefore, the Way of action of the
Golden Pill is to burn away all the
pollution of acquired conditioning, and not let the slightest flaw remain in the
heart, so that one may eventually re-experience original completeness. -- Liu
Yiming , The Taoist I Ching, Hexagram
#7 The Army

We are mighty robber kings, benevolent lords of the mountain. Since you don't know
our names, I'll tell them to you: Eye-seeing Happiness, Ear-hearing Anger, Nose-
smelling Love, Tongue-tasting
Thought, Mind-born Desire, and Body-based Sorrow. Sun Wukong (the Monkey King)
laughed at them. You're just a bunch of small-time crooks. You can't see that I'm
your lord and master". -- Journey
to the West (One of the four classical Chinese novels)

He who sees wandering thoughts sneaking in like thieves, will understand the
necessity of watching these intruding thoughts. -- Milarepa (11th c. Tibetan yogi)

Because of the existence of the six thieves, the six spirits wither. Because the
six spirits wither, the human form falls into the six existences. -- Shui-Ching
Tzu, Commentary on Cultivating Stillness
(Taoist text)

Lower Image: The Four Heavenly Kings, four Buddhist gods, trampling demons. The
Four Heavenly Kings represent the intellectual parts of the four lower centers (the
moving, instinctive, intellectual or
thinking and emotional center). They are in control of thieves, thoughts
unrelated to self-awareness, which are symbolized by demons. Todaiji temple, Nara,
