The document discusses the coronavirus known as COVID-19. It explains that the virus originated in China in late 2019 and was unknown at the time but is now called coronavirus 2019. The name comes from the crown-like spikes on the cell structure of the virus. Coronaviruses are not new and the world has previously dealt with SARS and MERS. The virus spreads from person to person and can be more dangerous for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. Prevention methods include lockdowns to slow the spread while treatments focus on supportive care and developing vaccines.
