Doctor Patient Communication

Yetri experienced poor doctor-patient communication as a child when she felt weak and had stomach pains. The doctor asked questions about her diet and symptoms before checking her physically and diagnosing food poisoning. The doctor advised her mother to avoid junk food and ensure proper chewing and hydration. Yetri felt the communication was calm and helpful as the prescription made her feel better. She believes her strength is in process skills like asking follow up questions to understand patients. In class, Yetri's group discussed that doctors should make eye contact and speak to patients

Doctor : "good morning ma'am, may I help you?"
My mom: " this is my daughter, the day before yesterday she felt really hurt on her stomach and
really felt her body became very weak, what's problem with her doctor?"
Doctor: " let me check her first (then she check my tension and my tounge then continue to
check my tummy) what kind food you eat?"
Me: " noodles"
Doctor: " how many often you eat noodle or any junk food?"
Me: " I often ate junk food while I'm in school during break time"
Doctor: " from now on try to avoid any kind junk food cause your tummy can be hurting and also
try to chewing the food in properly, don't eat too quickly it can also cause constipation, and for
madam I suggest you to take care more careful about your daughter habits, maybe that can be
prevent by consume hommie food and eat more fruits "
My mom: " I see. Yes I'll do it doctor. And yes she is really like to consume junk food especially
noodles."
Doctor: " here's the prescription, and also drink more water".
My mom, me: "thank you doctor".
That was my first time to checking myself health. It was really calming my mind cause I think I
can stand for any moment cause I felt very weak and I really thankful to the doctor so the day
after I felt really good after consume the prescription and followed the doctor's suggestion.

Answers: In my opinion, the type of communication skills that I am good at is the process skills.
Cause I really like to observe the patient's condition and I really enjoy to give them some
questions like using how and why in the investigate him/her.

B. GROUP TASK

 Please discuss about what the topic appears in the class today:

I think about the dialogue that happened on the picture is that : when the doctor was
diagnosed the patient's condition. I think that the doctor doing is not in proper time and
position. Cause we need to notice, that the way we treat the patient's report, we need do eye to
eye contact. so, we can notice the way the patient react in proper and we can felt empathy
during we read the report results. It is better for us to arrange into good report , I mean need
more time on prepare the good statement to the patient. so not directly bring out the
information in shouting out like never learn how to manner with patient like that way.
