About The Ghions Group

Ghion Gas Plc is one of the sister companies of ‘The Ghions Group’
which is an umbrella group of five family owned private limited
companies. These sister companies are currently engaged on
manufacturing, trading and service providing sector of the economy .
Some of these private limited companies have established subsidiaries
companies engaged in differing business activities.

I. Who We Are

Ghion Gas Plc. is a family owned Energy Company established under

the commercial code of Ethiopia by ten Ethiopian shareholders on
August 22, 1992. Ghion gas plc has subsidiary companies under its
umbrella. This companies are engaged in different business lines.

The two main motives behind the establishment of Ghion Gas Plc. are:

1. to provide the Ethiopian market with an alternative energy

source with excellent service at a cost effective price
2. to contribute to the nationwide effort of fighting against
deforestation.

To satisfy the needs of its clients in line with its establishment

objectives, Ghion Gas is currently engaged in the following clear line of
activities:

a. Import LPG gas and all relevant accessories

b. Filling LPG into cylinders of various sizes in it’s filling
plant
c. Marketing of LPG and all accessories
d. Design , install and commissioning of Bulk LPG systems
in large quantities at customers houses, businesses,

III. Brief Company History

Ghion Gas Plc was established under the commercial code of Ethiopia
by ten Ethiopian shareholders with a paid up capital of Birr 10,
000,000.00 on August 22, 1992. As per the investment certificate
provided by Oromia National Regional State, the company has
registered investment capital of Birr 13,550,000.00.

Ghion gas plc has subsidiary companies under its umbrella engaged in
different business lines. Ghion gas is in the energy sector and it has
filling station in Addis Ababa, Bahirdar and Combolcha.

The company has over the years rendered it’s service to the Ethiopian
market with dedication and professionalism. The long years of efficient
service was finally met with a reward of wide market acceptance and
enormous good will. That is why Ghion Gas has in a relatively short
period of time evolved into a large company.

Ghion gas is now the leading LPG supplier with numerous market
outlets in several cities and towns and covers more than 70% of the
market share in Ethiopia. The company also owns different affiliate
business i.e. Ethiopian ply wood enterprise, Misrak flour and bread
factories, corrugated carton box factory etc.
The company is now the leading supplier of LPG in the country with
about 70% market share. As a result of it’s excellent performance
guided by good governance, it has successfully capitalized on
numerous assets.

Over the years Ghion Gas Plc has evolved into a large energy company
it now is by making investment and capitalizing on useful assets. Ghion
Gas is by far the leading LPG company in Ethiopia with the highest
storage capacity, modern filling machinery and large fleet of LPG
transporting trucks.
The company currently has the following assets , facilities and usefull
resources under it’s ownership.
- A head office and Main Warehouse is located at Gotera 6 KMs from Bole
International Airport. All bulk deliveries are dispatched from the Main
Warehouse.
- three LPG sites ( Depot) complete with modern storage facilities and
filling machinery . The cumulative storage capacity is up to 1000 tons.
The largest depot is in Dukem town 35 kms out of Addis Ababa. We have
medium sized depots in Bahirdar and Kombolcha equipped with modern
filling stations wherein cylinders are filled.

- 14 heavy trucks with semi trailers for the transportation of LPG from the
port to Addis Ababa.
- 5 modern trucks equipped with ISO containers deployed for the
transportation of LPG .
- 5 heavy trucks with trailers deployed for the transportation of filled
cylinders to our central store in Addis Ababa and empty cylinders from
central store to the filling stations.
- 14 modern trucks and state of the art automatic filling station will be
installed very soon to upgrade the LPG transportation capacity by 100% ,
the LPG filling capacity by 100 % and the LPG storage capacity by 40%.

- 14 ISUZU trucks ( 200 cylinders carrying capacity) deployed for the

transportation of filled cylinders from the central store to ustomers and
retail distributors and empty cylinders back to the central store

- Bulk and mini bulk trucks deployed to promptly refill our bulk customers
storage facilities

- Upto 10,000 sqm warehouse and Storage facilities for empty & filled
cylinders at Dukem and in Addis Ababa

- invested on a carton box factory (2000) which is now engaged on the

production of customized carton boxes . It’s customers are flower
exporters, manufacturers of different products etc.

- acquiredthe Ethiopian Plywood Enterprise (2002) from the Ethiopian

Privatization Agency through public bid. The Ethiopian plywood
enterprise is now 100% owned by Ghion Gas Plc . It is engaged differing
plywoods, and office and house hold furnitures.

- Acquired Misrakbread,biscuit and flour factory (2004) from the

Ethiopian Privatization Agency through public bi . Misrak bread and
biscuit factory se is now 100% owned by Ghion Gas Plc . It is engaged the
production and marketing of wheat flour,

1. Bottled cylinder LPG Services

The company supplies liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in different

cylinder sizes ranging between 3kg and 52 kg. It supplies it’s
small to medium size products ( 3kg upto 52kg) to households,
hotels, and other middle capacity consumers.

Bottled LPG cylinder transport vehicles

Bottled LPG cylinders are transported from the filling station to

the retail shop by company trucks. The products are finally
distributed to clients through retail shops and the company’s
own branch offices. Customers bring the empty cylinder to any of
these retail shops and exchange for filled cylinders. The
company has over 300 contractual retail distributors in Addis
Ababa and all regional towns and commercial centers.

2. Bulk LPG Services

- For large volume consumers Ghion gas has also a bulk supply
facility of up to 60,000kg. The consumers for bulk supply are
Hotels, hospitals, industries, research institutes, factories and all
high consumption institutions. The
company installs gas storage tanks in the compounds of large
consumers. The bulk consumers are provided with regular
maintenance services and timely delivery of product to their site.
We currently have over 50 Bulk LPG customers

3. Design, installation &

commissioning of LPG supply
solutions

Ghion Gas has highly educated staff skilled manpower with wide
experience on LPG bulk gas deliveries systems &solution for
different type of businesses. The LPG bulk gas supply services
includes
 complete design work for LPG supply systems that fit to
customer sites
 delivery of appropriate storage tankers and on site
installation
 Installation of pipes and all relevance fittings and
accessories for a complete LPG supply system
 system commissioning , regular check up
 Timely refill of the onsite storage tanks.

4. Manufacturing & marketing

corrugated carton boxes
The factory works two shifts. It imports quality kraft and fluting
paper from re-known manufactures and is engaged in the
production of paper packaging that meet international standards.

Customized corrugated boxes -

catering to the requirements of various industries, we offer wide

range of customized corrugated boxes. We offer customization
services to meet client specifications on the basis of various
parameters such as size, shape and load capacity.

These boxes are offered at industry leading price and are

manufactured for optimal space utilization.

5. After Sales Services

In addition to the above services we have customers desk center

stationed at the head of under the marketing department. In this
center sales and customer service employees are in continuous
contact with distributors and customer to take orders and file
customer assistance requests. The following services are provided
for all customers

the top of hierarchical position. The managing director is
responsible to direct and control the day to day activities of the

Ghion gas offers an employment opportunity for 181 permanent and

116 temporary employees . Ghion Gas sufficient highly educated
employees. The company has

The position of all department heads, Divisions heads and Section

heads are held by professionals who have graduated with at least a
first degree from universities. Most of the technical staff and operation
workers are graduates of technical colleges. All down the line workers
have developed skills by long years of experience and frequent on the
job training.

Health and safety standards

Ghion Gas has applied British Code of Practice for HSE since the time
of establishment. Our storage sites, filling stations, mini-bulk tanks (at
customer Site) are all kept at a standard distance not to be accessed
by unauthorized personnel.

Ghion Gas has already established an excellent reputation with its

customers especially by its safety because our Cylinders are tested
and checked for leakage before they are released from the filling site.

Moreover what makes our cylinders especial is that the Cylinders

valves are cupped for dusts, leakage, and control. Bulk tanks, Storage
tanks, pipe works are hydraulically tested before use.

To upgrade the level of performance efficiency and safety practices,

we have recently employed the service of an expatriate who is an
expert on LPG. His duties shall be upgrading the performance
efficiency of the company and training the operational staff on safety
standards.

Trainings Scheme

Ghion Gas has a training scheme for it’s employees on safety and
operational issues. The safety training is directed by the safety officer.
This safety training course delivered at regular intervals through a
blend of discussion & practical training provides the employees with an
understanding of the hazards and properties of LPG gases and LPG gas
equipment.

The LPG equipment operational training is handled by the expatriate

consultant the company has employed. He trains new comer and
existing employees on proper running of LPG plant machinery and
equipment. The training is held in the form of on the job training.

In addition to the above general awareness creation workshops are

organized by the company wherein distributors and Bulk LPG
customers will participate.

customers. In small scale, LPG is required in households, small
businesses, hotels, clinics, research centers, laboratories etc.

Our large scale LPG scale LPG consumers are factories, heavy
