Today you get to own your own herd of horses. This means determining what kind of
medical care they will require, including injections. You will be practicing intermuscular
and subcutaneous injections in this lab. You must complete the health
assignment and prelab to participate in the lab.
Objectives
1. I can identify the tools and methods used in performing injections.
2. I can describe what I am doing while demonstrating an injection.
3. I understand how injections can be used to meet specific animal health management
goals.
Procedure
1.) Complete the equine health assignment due 1/24
2.) Review the injections PowerPoint
3.) Complete the prelab
4.) Review safety
5.) Demonstration
6.) Proceed with lab
7.) Check off both types of injections with an instructor.
8.) Answer post lab questions fully. Due end of class 1/29.

Injection Lab and Prelab

Lab Activity
Intramuscular Injection
a. Properly load 1 cc(mL) of blue liquid into the syringe provided
b. Prepare the injection site (Chicken Breast)
c. Follow all the steps from prelab question 4.
d. Once you feel confident, call over a teacher and have them watch while you walk
them through the steps and perform the injection.

Subcutaneous Injection
a. Properly load 1 cc(mL) of blue liquid into the syringe provided
b. Prepare the injection site (Orange)
c. Follow all the steps from prelab question 5.
d. Once you feel confident, call over a teacher and have them watch while you walk
them through the steps and perform the injection.
