Kourtni Tucker – Data Analysis
How well is the class doing as a whole group?
Not too great, frankly. Their class average on this test was at 67 percent, which is a
pretty good deal below where we would like to see it. An average of at least 75 to 80 percent
would have been more preferable. This could require some class-wide intervention. An average
of 67 percent indicates either a lack of understanding or a poor assessment. Regardless,
something should change.
In the event of this happening, you’d first want to check and see if one or two students
may be why the average dropped and figure out how you should help. However, the majority of
students scored in the 50s and 60s on this assessment. This indicates that it actually is an issue
with either comprehension or the assessment. Question 5 might have been a bit difficult, as
only 31 percent got it correct. Same for question 11. Otherwise, we’ll work on it.
Which individuals are doing well and in what topics?
Juan is doing well with all three topics. He got a perfect score on the assessment.
Cody is also doing well. He scored a 93. The only question he got wrong was in addition,
but I’d still say he is doing well with all three topics.
Jamal was one of a couple who got an 80, so he’s got the hang of it. I would definitely
consider that a job well done. He is doing well in addition and subtraction but may need help
with division.
Who may need extra support and on what topics?
Luke is struggling. He scored a 40. He is equally struggling with all three topics.
Nathan is also struggling. He scored a 47. He has trouble with addition and division and
is especially struggling with subtraction.
Molly is struggling. She scored a 53. She is actually doing well with addition. Division,
and especially subtraction, would be where she needs help.
I can give extra guidance in class and maybe have them work with Juan and Cody. I can
also talk to their caretakers about spending more time on math with them and provide
additional activities for home if necessary/requested.
