Timing through Graha’s Nakshatra Pada
Transits: Part 3: Navatara-Amsa

This technique is taken from “Predicting Through Navamsa and Nadi
Astrology” by Sri CS Patel.
Sri CS Patel quotes Chandrakala nadi vol 1, page 301 (Santhanam Tr.), verse
3018, when Saturn transits through (1) Vipat-taramsa, the native suffers
defeat (or imprisonment) at the hands of enemy. (2) In Sampat-taramsa one
suffers from fear, calamity or intense possibility of death.
The Navatara Chakra is an integral part of analysis of Dasas and Transits.
However, what is focused here is the Nakshatra pada of the Navataras.
The navataras are the following starting from Janma Nakshatra: 1.Janma,
2.Sampat, 3.Vipat, 4.Kshema, 5.Pratyak, 6.Sadhaka, 7.Vadha,
8.Mitra, 9.Adhi-mitra
All the Odd numbered Taras are inauspicious with only one exception of the
9th Tara. On the other hand, the Even numbered Taras are auspicious, to
which 9th Tara is added.
The results ascribed to the various Taras are as follows:
1. Janma: Risk thats present at the moment of birth, danger in the
birthing process, health, mind etc.
2. Sampat: Wealth and prosperity
3. Vipat: Danger, calamities, mishaps, misfortunes
4. Kshema: Well being, peace, auspicious events
5. Pratyak: Obstacles and failures
6. Sadhaka: Achievements, success, rise in life, improvement of status
7. Vadha: Danger to life, death, risk of severe diseases, calamities and
misfortunes
8. Mitra: Friendship, help, support, happiness and freedom from worries
9. Adhi-mitra: Intimate friendship or relationship, great sense of joy, take
life easily, be casual and relaxed
When natural malefics, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Mars transits these Taras, they
increase the danger of the Bad Taras (1,3,5,7) and decrease the auspiciousness
of the Good Taras (2,4,6,8,9). On the other hand, transit of Guru, protects the
danger of the Bad Taras and increases the auspiciousness of the Good Taras.
The Nakshatra Pada of the Navataras
Chandra is placed in some Pada at birth. When a Graha transits that Pada of a
Nakshatra, its ability to give the results due to the Transit through various
Taras is greatly enhanced.
For instance for a native born with Chandra in 4th Pada of Anuradha ruled by
Shani, the transit of Guru in the 4th Pada of Budha’s nakshatra can bestow
good wealth and prosperity. Why? Because Budha rules the 2nd Nakshatra
from the Janma Nakshatra.
The Navatara always follows the Vimshottari Dasa sequence. Which means, if
someone is born in Shani’s Nakshatra i.e., Shani’s dasa running at birth, the
Navataras are ruled by (1) Shani, (2) Budha, (3) Ketu, (4) Shukra, (5) Surya, (6)
Chandra, (7) Mangal, (8) Rahu, (9) Guru.
So, in the above example, whenever, a graha transits through say Surya
Nakshatra in the above example, we need to understand that it is transiting
through the Pratyak Tara as Surya is 5th in the sequence.
The impact of the transiting Graha in Surya’s Nakshatra is greatest when it
transit’s the 4th Pada. Why? Because Janma Chandra is occupying the 4th
Pada of Shani’s nakshatra.
Identifying the Nakshatra Pada of the
Transiting Graha
The Nakshatra Padas are mapped to the Tattva of the Navamsas.
1st Pada — Agni Navamsas — Mesha, Simha, Dhanu
2nd Pada — Prthvi Navamsas — Vrsha, Kanya, Makara
3rd Pada — Vayu Navamsas — Mithuna, Tula, Makara
4th Pada — Jala Navamsas — Karka, Vrschika, Meena
The easiest way to identify whether a Graha is transiting through the same
pada as the Janma Chandra is to look at the Trines to the Navamsa Chandra.
Why? Because the Trines to the Navamsa Chandra will always have the same
Tattva as the Navamsa Chandra.
For instance, in this example, Chandra is occupying 4th Pada of Anuradha,
which is mapped to Vrschika Navamsa. When say, Shani transits through
Vrschika, Meena or Karka, we can say that the graha is transiting through the
4th Pada. If say Shani is transiting Mars’s Nakshatra, it means that Shani is
transiting the 4th Pada of 7th Nakshatra which is Vadha Nakshatra. It can
mean Danger to life, great obstacles, difficulties and misery in the natives life.

In 1999, when Guru was transiting 4th Pada of Guru’s nakshatra, the native
appeared in MBA entrance exams CAT, XAT etc. and cleared all but one. At
that time, Guru was transiting the 4th Pada of the Adhimitra’s Nakshatra. Thus
giving excellent results.
In May 1999, when Guru was transiting the 4th pada of Budha’s Nakshatra, the
native secured admission into a premier MBA Institute. Budha is the Sampad
Tara, and Guru’s transit through the 4th pada of it was highly beneficial for the
native.
On March 19th 2001, when Guru was transiting Rohini-1, Chandra’s
Nakshatra, which is the Sadhaka Nakshatra, the native was offered a job in a
prestigious Indian MNC. The job was scheduled to start on May 7th, when
Guru would transit Rohini-4. Thus this indicate that some significant positive
event happens when Guru transits a Good Tara (2,4,6,8,9) and also the same
pada of that of Natal Chandra.
At the moment of the native’s father’s death, Mangal was transiting Saravana-
4. Sravana is Chandra’s Nakshatra, which is Sadhaka Tara. Shani was
transiting Shatabhishaj-1, Rahu’s nakshatra, which is the Mitra Tara. Rahu was
transiting Anuradha-1, Shani’s Nakshatra, which is the Janma Tara. Mangal
and Shani were afflicting two good stars Sadhaka and Mitra, while Rahu
afflicted the Janma Tara. Only Mangal transited the 4th Pada, same as
Chandra. It is noteworthy that Mangal was also transiting the 64th Navamsa
from Natal Shani as in the Rasi chart, it was in 8th from Shani in Makara, and
in Navamsa, it was in 4th from Navamsa Shani, in Karka. So, while Shani and
Rahu afflicted Natal Surya and the 9th lord in some other way, Mangal posed
danger due to being in 64th Navamsa from Janma Shani and also being in the
4th Pada.
