Red Cross Monthly Update

• The Mercer County Red Cross’ first quarterly newsletter has been sent! With the assistance of Tammy Hileman,
Gary Dietz, Bev Sanning, Billie Engle, Joan Hesson, Judy Nietfeld, Butch Duerr, Andy & Velma Hemmelgarn
9,200 newsletters were prepared and mailed in 3 days!! The volunteers had fun and had time challenges.
Congrats to Tammy Hileman! The next newsletter will be prepared for mail in the middle of November. Contact
the office for information to join in on the fun! ** Please let us know of any ideas that you may have for the
quarterly newsletter.

• We are looking for military volunteers to carry the military phone and to help with creating ideas to help provide
support for military members &/or their families. Contact the office if interested.

• A Blood Drive was held at the chapter office on Friday, July 25th that generated 24 units of blood that could
save up to 72 lives.

• For the month of August, there are blood drives scheduled in Burkettsville, Celina, Coldwater, St Henry, Ft.
Recovery, & at the Mercer County Fair. In the summer months there is a decrease in donor attendance, but the
need is still high. Help save a life and donate blood. St Henry’s August 20th drive will be a dedicated drive for
Cara Siefring (4 year old from Burkettsville with Leukemia) the drive will also have a bone marrow drive.

• Congratulations and Thank you to Jeannette Liette!! She has just donated her 25th gallon of BLOOD!

August Health & Safety classes at the office~ Call the office to pre-register for a class.
• ***Adult CPR, on August 7th @ 6pm
*** CPR for the Professional Rescuer on Aug 12 & 13th at 6pm,
*** First Aid on August 19th @ 6pm
***Child/infant CPR on August 28th. @6pm

• 5 Disaster volunteers will be attending a Disaster Kitchen Training on August 8 & 9th in Perrysburg

• Disaster Action Team meeting is on Thursday, August 14th at 6:30pm at the office

• Our chapter has received a $1500 grant from Midwest Electric!!! The money will be used to purchase a laptop
and a projector to be used in presentations & trainings. Thanks to Midwest & their customers!!!!

• Since April 1st, the American Red Cross has responded to 36 large disasters that have destroyed homes and
uprooted lives across our country.

• In the month of July the Mercer Co. Chapter provided assistance to a family that had a fire in their home.

• The next race in Mercer County is on Sunday, August 10th 7pm at the fair. Come check it out!!

• Red Cross will have a booth at the fair in the Commercial building

• Since April 1, the Red Cross has responded to 38 large-scale disasters, which are anticipated to cost more than
$30 million.

• First Annual RIDE for the RED will be held on Sat Sept 27th. Call the office for more information to participate in
the event or to volunteer to help.

• Dolly is the first hurricane of the Atlantic season to make landfall, which occurred Wednesday, July 23. The
estimated cost of Red Cross response to Hurricane Dolly is $2 to $5 million.

• The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization & is not a government agency. Our chapter relies on the
generosity of the citizens in Mercer County to fulfill the Red Cross mission to prevent, prepare, & respond to
disasters.
