What the terms mean
Hb Haemoglobin - The oxygen carrying
protein pigment in the blood,
specifically in red blood cells.
WBC White blood cells.
Neutrophils A type of white blood cell.
Platelets An irregular, disc-shaped element in
the blood that assists in blood clotting.
ESR Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate - a
blood test that detects and monitors
inflammation in the body. The rate
increases with more inflammation.
ALT Enzyme made in the liver which is
usually released into the blood during
injury. Abnormally high levels may
indicate liver damage.
PIIINP Type 3 procollagen peptide – a blood
test used during the treatment of
psoriasis to monitor for liver problems.
Creatinine A substance normally cleared from the
blood by the kidney. Increased blood
levels of creatinine indicate a problem
with kidney function.
Potassium An essential mineral needed to
regulate water balance and blood
pressure. Increased blood levels of
potassium may indicate a problem
with kidney function.
BP Blood pressure.
