Zinc is a natural component of the earth and


inherent in our environment. Zinc is present not
only in rock and soil, but also in air, water and
the biosphere. Even plants, animals and humans
contain zinc.

Zinc is currently the 4th most


widely consumed metal in
the world after iron,
aluminum, and copper.

Zinc oxide can be used in


ointments, creams, and lotions
to protect against sunburn and
other damage to the skin caused
by ultraviolet light.

U.S. Lincoln Memorial pennies dated after


1983 are made of 97.5% zinc and plated with
a thin copper coating.
