Hall of Nations

Raj Rewal was an Indian architect from Punjab whose philosophy was for buildings to respond to rapid urbanization, climate, and culture. In 1972, he designed the Hall of Nations exhibition complex in New Delhi to accommodate large objects by winning a competition. Inspired by traditional jali screens, Rewal incorporated them into the complex's unique space frame system shaped like a truncated pyramid made of cast-in-situ concrete with 4.9m x 4.9m units forming the 73m x 73m base truncated at 30m height and 39m x 39m roof span.
