LEARNING PROCEDURE:
Review of the Previous Review the difference between a play and a story.
Lesson:
Motivation: What elements make a piece of literature more interesting to read?
Lesson Proper:
Present the day’s objectives.
Talk about literary devices used by authors to make their work unique for readers. Focus discussion on
metaphors and symbolisms.
Talk about the text, Sweet Potato Pie and have the students read after. Follow it up by discussing the
metaphors and symbolisms use by the author.
Activity/ies:
Form a group of 5. Make a list of 5 of ideas, places, and object on the first column. On the next column,
write what these object symbolize in their lives. Class sharing will follow after the task has been
completed.
Closure:
How do metaphors and symbolisms add to the interest of readers to better understand a work of fiction?
END- OF- DAY EVALUATION/ASSESSMENTS:
List down 2 symbols and 3 metaphors from the text and provide an explanation below each item.
ASSIGNMENT/EXTENSION ACTIVITIES:
With the same grouping as the activity, make a short script on the text, Sweet Potato Pie to be performed
before the class.
