Syakirah : Hello, good evening, Nadhrah!


Nadhrah : Yes, Syakirah! good evening too. Long time no see.
Syakirah : Yes me too. How are you Nadhrah?
Nadhrah : Yes, I am fine. How about you?
Syakirah : Well, as you see right now. I am fine too. What are you doing?
Nadhrah : Oh, I am surfing the internet to search about the Sogit ritual but I can’t find anything
about this culture on the internet. Do you know sogit?
Syakirah : Oh, don’t worry. I know anything about it. By the way, I heard last night about Sogit
culture from my Dusun friend.
Nadhrah : Wow, so what is exactly Sogit is about?
Syakirah : Absolutely, as I know, Sogit is the Dusun religious practices.
Nadhrah : Yes, but Sogit is a traditional practice too. It is known as “cooling compensation”
ritual performed by a shaman to appease the anger of the spiritual world and restore balance.
Syakirah : Ohh yaa? But they do the Sogit practice based on what I know, an animal sacrifice
such as pig or chicken, and certain amount of money depending on the seriousness of the
offense.
Nadhrah : The Sogit ritual is unique! How can Sogit happen?
Syakirah : When a man had brought shame to a family by having a close proximity with a female
member of that family or something worse.
Nadhrah : Its crystal clear that this ritual will make us be afraid to do something wrong on our
religion or culture. By the way, I heard this ritual is not only for Dusun, is it true?
Syakirah : The Murut tribe also practice the Sogit too. There are so many types of punishment
for those who do the wrong things such as the law of divorce marriage, the law of ancestor and
old law.
Nadhrah : I think Sogit practice is too complete rules and it will take a long time to be explain.
Syakirah : Yes, it takes time to be understood. Sogit rules successfully elevate the Dusun dignity
to civilized nation.
Nadhrah : Yes, because that’s why this practice of Sogit should be respected by the Dusun
people as a custom that has succeeded until today.
Syakirah : I gain more knowledge about Sogit. Thank you for sharing. But I have to go now to
