Year 7 End-of-Year Composition

Name: __________________________ Class: ________ Due Date: ______________

We are going to put together a few things that we have learnt this year in music. By doing this,
you will learn how to write and play your own tune/melody.

Rhythm
Name these notes and give their lengths:
    

When you write a rhythm, make sure that your notes equal the time signature in every bar.
What does this time signature mean?  _______________________________________

What is wrong in each of the following two rhythms?
                 

Write two, two bar rhythms that fill each bar correctly. Make sure that you include the time
signature and the double bar line at the end of each.

When you write a rhythm for a song, it is good to use variety. As a class we will clap each
rhythm. Which one shows variety, how?

In the space below, write a 4 bar rhythm. You may use this in your melody/tune later.
 Use all of the available notes (include any others that you may know)
 Write the time signature, bar lines and double bar line
 Make sure that there is variety
A melody is made up of rhythm and pitch. The
pitch for your melody will use the following
notes:

Let’s revise:

Give an example that would be a series of S _ _ _ _? _______________________________
Give an example that would be a series of L _ _ _ _? ________________________________

Together we are going to:

 Name the notes
 Circle the pairs of R _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ N _ _ _ _
 Put a square around any L _ _ _ _
 Use a slur to show S _ _ _ _

Does this rhythm show variety? Explain _________________________________________

Together we are going to write some bars that use the different pitch techniques (write a
rhythm above the bar first):
