Re: Science Teacher Job Opening
Tuesday May 5, 2020
Dear Hiring Committee:
Throughout my career in education, I have had many different opportunities to work with youth in my
local community. I have always enjoyed working with young adolescents and witnessing the maturation
and progress they make in terms of both life skills, education, and social skills.
I have had the great opportunity to have several jobs and volunteer experiences working with youth
between the ages of ten to fourteen years of age. My first experience working with youth was coaching
a flag football team of youth associated with the Boys and Girls Club. These kids were transitioning from
elementary to junior high school. It was a rewarding experience to help them grow and watch them
have fun while teaching them valuable skills of cooperation, respect, teamwork, and dedication. I also
coached freshman football for three years at Rancho Cotate High School. Both these coaching
experiences helped guide me in my decision to become an educator.
While I was coaching at Rancho Cotate High School, I re-enrolled at Sonoma State University to earn a
degree which would provide the platform to continue a career in teaching. During this time, I got a job
working as a Full-Inclusion Instructional Assistant with Petaluma City Schools. I worked as a one-to-one
aide for two years alongside a student who has autism. This experience taught me a lot about teaching
and how to assert myself as an educator in a classroom setting. It taught me how important it was for
students of all backgrounds to have adults in their life that they can look up to and establish a self-
identity for themselves. Being able to model what it means to be caring, respectful, courteous, open-
minded, and a hard-worker is what gives me fulfillment as an educator.
Once I earned a degree from Sonoma State University, I applied for and was accepted into the Single
Subject Credential Program for foundational level science at Sonoma State University. Upon completion
of the program, I will have met the qualifications to teach science to students in the age group that I am
passionate about working with, 7th and 8th graders. This program has allowed to me grow even further
as a role model and as an educator. I have acquired invaluable skills from student teaching and
observing other teachers practice their craft. It is my goal to always put student learning first and to be
have a positive impact in the lives of all the youth that I work with.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider the skills and professionalism that I can bring to
the education system, as well as consider the positivity that I wish to provide in student lives.
Regards,
Paul Trombetta
