This lesson plan is for a kindergarten phonics lesson on matching objects to their beginning sounds and letters. Students will sort toys from a bin by placing each toy on a large paper with the corresponding letter for its beginning sound. The teacher will work with a small group and provide instructions and guidance as students do the activity in pairs. To assess learning, absent students will complete a worksheet where they say an object's name and circle its beginning letter.
