Writing Growth in Technical Course

The document reflects on the author's writing growth. It discusses how the author's writing skills in English were not very organized before university. As a natural sciences student, the author did not do much writing and struggled with organizing complex ideas on paper. This was challenging for a genetics symposium. The technical writing course provided tools to improve the author's writing, such as free writing. In reviewing assignments over time, the author sees improved consistency and direction in their writing. The author no longer feels the need to constantly search for how to organize thoughts for papers.

Reflection of My Writing Growth

Before I came to university my writing skills in English weren’t that atrocious, however, they

weren’t organized. Ever since I entered university, I haven’t really been writing that much, this is

the result of my bachelor’s degree, as I have mentioned before in my previous work, I am

pursuing an education on Natural Sciences, and this have become sort of a problem. The issue

that comes with pursuing an education in sciences, is the misconception that writing is

uncomplicated. The reality of the fact, is that writing or putting something on a paper for others

to understand is quite strenuous.

The main problem I have as a writer, is conducting my ideas on a clear way. This became a

considerable issue when I had to write a symposium on my genetics lecture, last year. The

problem arise when I had to organize some convoluted ideas on to a paper. This represented a

challenge for me, since I hadn’t taken a class of English in a while, and additional to that, I never

learned how to properly write a concept on a technical way. Surprisingly enough, I am currently

finishing a class labeled as Technical Writing, which is intended to serve for such a problem.

This course provided me some tools for my writing. In a more specific way, for my technical

writing, looking back at my first writing assignment “Free writing” my writing has undoubtedly
improve. Recently I was working on my writing portfolio for the class, in which I could see a

timeline of my writing and how the same have improve in both consistency and direction. Now I

feel like I don’t have to be constantly searching for a proper way of organizing my thoughts in an

essay or paper, and that’s quite satisfying.
