Subject
Modifications on SELECTRA 1 and SELECTRA 2

Dear Service Manager,

We would like to inform you about the following subjects, because of changes
and/ or new parts:

1. Screws for mounting clips PCB in SELECTRA 2.

2. Marked D-connector in SELECTRA 2.
3. General overview of software versions used in SELECTRA 1.
4. New software version V2.10 for SELECTRA 1.
5. Modification S. New type of 3-way valve in waste system for SELECTRA 2.
6. New type of 3-way valve in waste system for SELECTRA 1.
7. Modification R. Powersupply SELECTRA 2 shielded.
8. Service tool to prevent damage in case of overflow of sample- or reagent wash
position on SELECTRA 1 and SELECTRA 2.

Appendix A: Description of the different software versions SELECTRA 1.

Pag.-1-
1. Screws for mounting clips PCB in SELECTRA 2

What: The locking screws for the clips of the mounting plates are locked by
locktite, and a distance (d) is created (see figure). Now it is possible to
remove the PCB mounting plate's from the beam without using a
screwdriver only by lifting the clip.

Why: The experience learned us that in most cases, when the SELECTRA is
installed at the customer's side it is very difficult for technician to
reach the backside of the SELECTRA.

(Dis)mounting instruction:
Push the plate backwards and lift the clip (see figure 2). Remove the
mounting plate from the beam. Now the mounting plate can be
moved horizontally.

When: SELECTRA 2 delivered in August 1995 and later.

2. Marked D-connector in SELECTRA 2

What: We have marked the wires of the D-connector.

Why: In this way we try to prevent mistakes, if you (dis)connected the

D-connectors.

When: Instruments delivered from August 1995 on.

See figure below for an example.

SEL024.doc Pag. 2
The undermentioned table gives an overview/description of the
marked connectors:

Connector Description
Number
1 Rotor unit connection cable
2 Reagent arm connection cable
3 Wash arm connection cable
4 Sample arm connection cable
5 Measuring unit connection cable
6 Frame complete
7 Frame complete

3. General overview of software versions used in SELECTRA 1.

What: We made a general overview concerning the existing software version

(from version V1.40) for SELECTRA 1 up to the current version.

Why: The past years several software versions have been released for the
SELECTRA 1. To have a clear overview of the software history we
made the following table. It is necessary that the right software
versions are used together.

On the table the next page is shown date of release and the software
versions which are used together (Boot-, Z80- ..... and ISE unit prom).
Table of software versions:

Each software version must match in horizontal sense with the one
used in your instrument.

For more information about contents of the software versions we refer

to appendix A. In this appendix a more detailed description of the
several software versions mentioned in the table above is given.

4. New software version V2.10 in SELECTRA 1

What: A new software version V2.10 has been released for SELECTRA 1. This
software can also be installed on instruments without ISE hardware
preparation. See appendix A (point 7) for detailed information.

This version will only be implemented in the SELECTRA 1

instruments delivered from VITAL.

Why: To upgrade the SELECTRA 1 with the following major functions:

- maintenance history,
- wash after measurement.
Furthermore some bugs are solved. See appendix A for more detailed
information.

When: SELECTRA 1 delivered in September 1995 and later.

SEL024.doc Pag. 4
There will not be a software update for instruments already delivered,
because a new and final SELECTRA 1 software is being made at this
moment and will be released soon.

5. Modification S: New type of 3-way valve in waste system for SELECTRA 2

What: The SELECTRA 2 is equipped with a new type of 3-way valve in the waste

circuit.

Why: The old one is causing overflow to often.

When: - SELECTRA 2 delivered in September 1995 and later.

- For all SELECTRA 2 instruments already delivered, a valve update
kit (6002-002) consisting of 1 pump unit valve, 3 main unit valves,
4 cable assy's and tubing will be send automatically, free of charge.

SEL024.doc Pag. 5
Old: 3366-915 Valve 3-way DFL. 156.00

New: 6001-989 Cable assy DFL. 10.00

6001-928 Valve with bracket for pump unit DFL. 165.00
6001-929 Valve with bracket for SELECTRA DFL. 165.00

6. New type of 3-way valve in waste system for SELECTRA 1.

What: We have introduced a new type of valve for the SELECTRA 1.

(Note: The valves for the SELECTRA 1 and 2 are the same, only the

cable assy is different.)

Why: The old one is causing overflow to often.

When: - Available from October 1995.

- For all SELECTRA 1 instruments shipped from 1 June 1994 a valve
update kit 6002-001 (consisting of 1 pump unit
valve, 3 main unit valves, 8 cable assy's and tubing) is available
which can be ordered at VITAL, free of charge.

SEL024.doc Pag. 6
Old: 3366-915 Valve 3-way DFL. 156.00

New: 6001-927 Cable assy DFL. 5.00

6001-928 Valve with bracket for pump unit DFL. 165.00
6001-929 Valve with bracket for SELECTRA DFL. 165.00

ATTENTION
Order two cable assy's 6001-927 to connect one new valve in SELECTRA
1.

7. Modification R: Powersupply SELECTRA 2 shielded.

What: The powersupply in SELECTRA 2 is shielded with a metal plate.

Why: To improve the EMC for SELECTRA 2 and to protect the technician
for high voltage.

When: Instruments delivered from September 1995 and later.

8. Service tool to prevent damage in case of overflow of sample- or reagent

wash position on SELECTRA 1 and 2.

What: A drain is made for the sample- and reagent needle wash position to
prevent liquid to enter into the reagent-, sample compartment or the
measurement unit.

Why: Because the complexity of the needle wash position overflow problem,
a clear cause of it is not always found. This means that the service
intervention will not bring the solution in all cases.

In case the instrument shows a needle wash position overflow again

the drain can avoid expensive damage to the instrument. When after
some time the service intervention has proven itself the drain can be
removed again.

SEL024.doc Pag. 7
New: 4509-177 drain sample needle wash position DFL 75,-
4509-178 drain reagent needle wash position DFL 75,-

When: Available from October 1995.

In case there are still some questions please call.

with kind regards,

Marcel van Heertum

Appendix A
Description of software versions SELECTRA 1.

1. Software version: V 1.40, 16 June 1993

(Modifications since V 1.30)

- Absorbance limits were wrongly checked for reagent blanks.

- Twopoint measurements were wrongly checked both for Absorbance
and concentration.
- Sometimes the statusline in report setup was wrongly broken.
- Measure again (in evaluate samples) is now always with normal
volumes.
- Error history sometimes showed old errors with old dates mixed with
current errors.
- Service: after Meas. Disc/filter going to adjust lamp or opto
electronics: wrong filter was selected.
- Opto electronics: blank mode did not work properly.
- (Z80-ware:) after f.e. vacuum error system remained "active".
- (Z80-ware:) hanging in checking status after specific reset of reagent
arm error.
- If the error history is empty and the F1 (print) key was pressed, an
old error was printed.
- Needle Rinse has been extended with extra rinsing of wash positions.
- System cleaning has been added at rotor/diluter (Fill/empty with
cleaning solution, 2x fill/empty with water).
- CUVET INCOMPATIBILITY has been added (test incompatibility
has been renamed to needle incompatibility).
- Quality Control: Scroll through tests in graphic mode.
- Quality Control: Table mode (with reject possibility).

2. Software version: V 1.50, 8 September 1993

(Modifications since V 1.40)

- After pressing Confirm Load (F3) sometimes the reagent left value of
the first requested test (in reagent info) was set to zero.
- Load samples: After selecting samples, before pressing F3 (Confirm
Load), pressing F5 (Reagent Info) sometimes showed wrong
information (tray column).
- Sometimes the year (1993) changed to 2063 or an other value on
ampro-xt's.
- After a successful reset, the SELECTRA asks, whether uncompleted
tests must be measured again or not. However if the operator
chooses 'measure', the tests, which were 'being remeasured' are
skipped.

- After a successful reset, the SELECTRA asks, whether uncompleted

tests must be measured again or not. However if the operator presses
Alt F10, the F2 key had to be pressed to continue.

SEL024.doc Pag. 9
- Pause feature (by pressing a key) at init menu has been removed.
- LANGUAGES German, Spanish, French, Italian have been
implemented: from this version and up there are two floppies:
- Floppy 1: ENGLISH/GERMAN/SPANISH
- Floppy 2: ENGLISH/FRENCH/ITALIAN

3. Software version: V 1.51, 11 April 1994

(Modifications since V 1.50)

Concentrated waste added in service.

4. Software version: V 2.00, 3 Feb. 1994

- 19.75 was rounded to 19.7 instead of 19.8

- If the error history contained 99 errors (the maximum), when
walking through the error history, 1 error was shown incorrectly.
(There was also a chance of 1 out of 14, that the PgDn key showed
one nonsense page.)
- If the number of "tests on this rotor" was >= 999999, OVFL was
displayed.
- After December 31st, the message "Date not set or battery low" was
displayed at startup.
- After Confirm Load (F3) sometimes the SELECTRA did not start if
the result buffer was almost full. (Individual starvation of the timer
interrupt routine. Now solved by a schedule count.)
- Watchdog triggers reset line if 60 seconds the keyboard has been
ignored.
- ISE measurements possible (Na+, K+, Cl-).

5. Software version: V2.02, 16 March 1994

- Burn-in version: After a reset the SELECTRA ignored sometimes F5

(measure) and F6 (reject).
- At any error display, always the message ISE CALIBRATION
FAILED was displayed if once happened.
- Internal ISE unit counter value not displayed nor printed.
- No ISE carry over correction after a rinse or clean/cond/rinse.
- ISE weekly maintenance (with deproteinizer) added.
- If ISE standard A or B not detected, confirm refill (F2) is now
possible.

6. Software version: V 2.03, 28 March 1994

- Test parameters (NVRAM.DAT) have been changed.

- Faster foreground screen displaying in evaluate samples (V2.00 and
V2.02 were slower than V1.50).
- From now on: no NVRAM.DAT file for OPSTART 1 floppy

SEL024.doc Pag. 10
7. Software version: V2.10, 20 July 1995

- French: DEBORD has been replaced by DEPASS.

- ISE monthly/half year maintenance: after emptying measurement
chamber, wrong text was displayed.
- If washarm up, no measurements are started.
- In case of wrong year (in clock compared with NVRAM year) at
startup, once an error is displayed (date not set or battery low) and the
clockyear is copied from NVRAM.
- ISE clean/condition/rinse/calibrate has been replaced by ISE
clean/condition/rinse/rinse/rinse/calibrate (takes 36 minutes if
during photometric measurements).
- Maintenance history on screen and error history printout for:
* last 10 needle rinse dates.
* last 10 ISE clean/condition/rinse/rinse/rinse/calibrate dates.
* last 10 ISE deproteinise/condition/rinse/rinse/rinse/calibrate
dates.
* last system clean date (only on printout).
- After last measurement 6 HCl/sputofluol dummies are measured:
* 2 times 400 µl HCl to measurement rotor.
* 2 times 400 µl HCl to wash position and 32 µl sputofluol to
wash position.
* 2 times 32 µl sputofluol to measurement rotor.
* 6 HCl/sputofluol dummies are only performed if at least 10
measurements have been performed (dummies s.a. needle
rinse dummies are not counted).
- System parameter "ISE connection present" added.
YES in case the hardware option is present, No if not.
This selection makes it possible to run this software on
instruments without ISE hardware option.
