You can easily generate filler text using lorem ipsum sites, but if you're running
Microsoft Word 2010, you don't even need to open your browser. You can easily
generate filler text (handy when you're working on layouts) in three styles.

This is a modal window.

Close Modal Dialog
As tech blogger Helen Bradley points out, there are three different functions you
can use. For each of them, the first number is the number of paragraphs, the second
is the number of sentences in that paragraph. Just type the command and hit Enter:

 Type =rand(1,2) for text in the style of help information. This is helpful if you

want something that approximates English text.
 Type =lorem(1,2) for text in classic lorem ipsum format. This can be good if
you don't want to focus on the content.
 Type =rand.old(1,2) for repeated versions of the quick brown fox pangram.

You can skip the numbers and just use =rand(), =lorem() or =rand.old() if you wish.

One caveat: the feature won't work if you've disabled the AutoCorrect 'Replace text
as you type' feature (under File Options Proofing Autocorrect Options). Useful to
know if you're regularly editing in Word.

For older versions (2003 and earlier), =rand() is the same as =rand.old() in
the newer versions.

Office 2011 for Mac, behind as ever, only recognises the =rand(), displaying
the same as the =rand.old() example above.

This has been around for years and years. The limit is about =rand(99,200) I
think.

This is not random text in the math/cryptographic sense of the word. Does
anyone know how to generate that?
