HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE

Film and Book Review

The Harry Potter series by J. Rowling is a worldwide blockbuster. The seven books were
adapted into an eight-part namesake film series by Warner Bros. Pictures. I watched and
read all of them, but the first part is my favorite one.
The story is set in magical Britain. It stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron,
and Emma Watson as Hermione.

As the film opens, Harry arrives at the loveless home of the Dursleys. Everything that
precedes this point in the book is omitted. At the beginning of the novel, Minerva
McGonagall has been observing Vernor Dursley before her meeting with Dumbledore. Then
Harry found out that he is a wizard. In the film, we don't realize how miserable Harry's life
was. As readers, we know exactly what he felt the whole time. Another difference is how
Harry meets Draco Malfoy. In the book, they meet in the book shop. Meanwhile, in the film,
Draco makes his first appearance in the Great Hall. At Hogwarts Harry realizes he's special
and starts the great adventure with his friends Ron and Hermione.

Skilfully directed by Chris Columbus, the film was a box-office hit. It captures a mystical
atmosphere. The camerawork is stunning. As a matter of fact, the male lead is not my
favorite one, even though, as Harry Potter, Daniel is appealing. As for me, it is the character
of Draco Malfoy, convincingly acted by Tom Felton, who is the most fascinating of all. I
simply adore him!

With its charm, you'll be engrossed in this series. It's worth watching over and over again.
