-The concept of agri-fishery as a government sector in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing
government sector plays a vital role in our economy and our lives just like in the agriculture,
Forestry, and fishing industry. It supplies us and many other countries with a wide variety of
food products and non-food products such as fibers, lumber, and nursery items. It contributes
positively to our foreign trade balance and it remains one of the Nation's larger industries in
terms of total employment. However, technology continues to enable us to produce more of these
products with fewer workers, resulting in fewer farms and farmworkers.
The Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in growing
crops, raising animals, harvesting timber, and harvesting fish and other animals from a farm, ranch, or
their natural habitats. The establishments in this sector are often described as farms, ranches, dairies,
greenhouses, nurseries, orchards, or hatcheries. A farm may consist of a single tract of land or a
number of separate tracts which may be held under different tenures. For example, one tract may be
owned by the farm operator and another rented. It may be operated by the operator alone or with the
assistance of members of the household or hired employees, or it may be operated by a partnership,
corporation, or other type of organization. When a landowner has one or more tenants, renters,
croppers, or managers, the land operated by each is considered a farm. The sector distinguishes two
basic activities: agricultural production and agricultural support activities. Agricultural production
includes establishments performing the complete farm or ranch operation, such as farm owner-
operators, tenant farm operators, and sharecroppers. Agricultural support activities include
establishments that perform one or more activities associated with farm operation, such as soil
preparation, planting, harvesting, and management, on a contract or fee basis. Excluded from the
Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fishing sector are establishments primarily engaged in
agricultural research and establishments primarily engaged in administering programs for regulating
and conserving land, mineral, wildlife, and forest use.
Its function in the development of the people of the country is to produce more foods to the
people or farmers and they gain more benefits or income through agri-fishery. Also, marketing is
becoming more important in agri-fishery. For small farms to make money, many have had to
come up with ways to bypass the agent or costumer and sell directly to consumers or other end
users. For example, some fruit and vegetable growers use the marketing strategy of "pick-your-
own" produce, set up roadside stands, or sell at farmers' markets. More local growers are
contracting with nearby restaurants or grocery stores to sell their produce, many of which are
being ordered over the Internet by customers.
Another development is the use of crops, particularly corn, to produce ethanol as a source of
energy. The impact of this development on the agriculture industry is not yet known. The rise in
the price of corn will no doubt help corn farmers, but may have unintended effects as land used
for other crops is taken out of production and replaced with corn, and the rising price of corn
causes problems for consumers of other corn products and producers that feed corn to animals.
Organic farming, however, provides farmers with tremendous growth opportunities. The 2008
Farm Act, which provides farmers funding to convert their operations to organic agriculture, is

expected to continue support this segment. Agri-fishery like agriculture, forestry, and fishing
attract people who enjoy working with animals, living an independent lifestyle, or working
outdoors on the land. For many, the wide-open physical expanse, the variability of day-to-day
work, and the rural setting provide benefits that help to offset the sometimes hard labor and the
risks associated with unseasonable or extreme weather and shifting outlook for revenues.
2.) Answers
The concepts that are learned among the following courses as described in the curriculum offered
by the DepEd are:
1. Agricultural Crop Production
-this is the activity or practices performed by a farmer on a farm for the purpose of producing
food and fiber and other human needs such as cultivation of the soil to grow plants, harvesting
crops rearing, managing animals and plants. It includes grains, fruits, tobacco, vegetables, nuts,
plants, and others. It is likewise practiced as a business for economic gain Agricultural crop
production are very essential to human and animal life. Food security, depletion of natural
resources and the need for economics, sustainable and socially acceptable cropping and farming
systems are topics that will become increasingly important in the light of human population
growth. The agricultural crop production support activities subsector includes establishments that
perform any number of agricultural -related activities such as soil preparation, planting,
harvesting, or management. Degree programs in crop production are available at undergraduate
and graduate levels. Graduates are eligible for a variety of agricultural careers.
b. Landscape installation and Maintenance
- is one of the skil, art and activity regularly that makes people achieved in installing and
maintaining landscape designs for all types of development projects including residential,
commercial, industrial, institutional and open space areas. It is also includes skills in growing
plants , and trees through arts with a goal of keeping and create to be beautiful, clean and safe
environmentally healthy landscapes. Landscape installation on your property is much like adding
and addition to your home only on the outside. Many benefits arise from a landscape installation
such as increasing the value of your home to make appeal. Most landscape installations involve
adding or creating new landscape plantings around the foundation of the home or other areas and
purposes of the landscape, also it’s include bed preparation.
C. Horticulture
- Horticulture or garden culture defined as the agriculture of plants which are the activity
or practice of growing and maintaining plants in different types of environment. It’s require the
propagation, cultivation and processing of fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, ornamental plants,
flowers, and species are usually given individual attention. With the aim of improving plants
grow, yields, quality, nutritional value, and resistance to insects, diseases, environmental
stresses.
D. Organic Culture

Course Activities
- is the environmentally friendly response to tradional agriculture. It is the sustainable
development in the way to supply or provide the health of soils, the ecosystems and people
around us. This is the systems, on which mainly depends on ecosystem management instead of
the artificial agricultural inputs. It prioritizes fair relationship and good quality of life for all.
E. Pest Management
- As the fundamental practice of preventing managing or to keep from damaging
populations of insects and other animal pests by combining the use of all practical methods of
pest control including biological, physical, and chemical methods in a manner that attained the
clients goals while minimizing economic, health and environmental risks.
F. Rice Machinery Operations
- It consists of competencies that a person must achieve in the operation and basic routine
maintenance of rice machinery for land preparation, crop installation, crop apprehension,
harvesting, and threshing, drying, and milling.
G. Rubber Production
- Rubber Production: Tapping rubber trees, latex collection and processing of raw rubber.
Many plants produce latex, which oozes from cuts and injuries as a milky sap. Some latexes are
collected for their resins or their alkaloids (opium). Rubber is a coagulated, elastic latex.
H. Rubber Processing
-Rubber processing consists of four basic steps: (1) mastication, when the elastomer is
sheared and the molecules are broken down to give easier flow, (2) mixing, usually carried out
immediately after mastication, when additives are incorporated, (3) shaping of the viscous mass,
for example, by extrusion or molding, and (4) curing, when the polymer molecules become
interlinked and the shape is fixed.
I. Animal Production
-The production of animal goods; such as meat, dairy, wool, and leather; is a multi-billion-
dollar-per-year industry and accounts for over half of the value of U.S. agricultural products.
Further, livestock products supply about 13 percent of energy and 28 percent of protein in diets
consumed worldwide. Technological advances and the development of science-based
management practices and standards have enabled the United States to make vast strides in the
efficient and economical generation of higher-quality animal foods and fiber products.
J. Animal Health Care Management
- It is the proper way management practices for the health care of animals to perform the daily
basis by the livestock handlers that are required to maintain health and production which people
can enhance the knowledge, skills needed at the first line of defense diseases inorder to protect
human health and production loss disease from capable of transmitted to animals. Also

monitoring animal health and preventing animal disease outbreaks is vital to the economy and
safety of the country’s food supply. Production of healthy livestock helps to ensure a safe food
supply and keep consumer prices stable.
K. Artificial Insemination
- is the method of collecting sperm cells from a male animal and manually storing them into
the reproductive tract of a female. It is the most frequently used in place of natural mating in
many variety species of animals because of many benefits that can obtain.
L. Slaughtering Operation
-the act where animals are killed and processed into meat products in the slaughter house. In
slaughter line operations ,clean and unclear operations are manually separated and individually
each person performed to avoid contamination of deceased and edible products.
M. Aquaculture
- The rearing of aquatic animals and the cultivation of aquatic plants for foods. It is the
propagation of marine organisms with human intervention in order to increase yield or
harvesting of aquatic organisms. Aquaculture is really important in our environment as of now
because it involves fish farming. Fish farming is the most common types of aquaculture also
involves the selective breeding of fish, either in fresh water or sea water with the purpose of
producing a food source for consumption. Aquaculture, like fish farming is highly manipulated
as it allows for the production of cheap source of protein. A rapidly growing sector of
agriculture, aquaculture is expected to provide almost two-thirds of the fish intended for global
consumption by 2030. Aquaculture involves the breeding,, and harvesting of freshwater and
marine species of fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants. Producers farm in all types of water
environments, including ponds, rivers, lakes, oceans, and land-based, closed recirculating-water
systems.
N. Fishing Gear Repair and Maintenance
- Fishing gear are defined ad foods used to capture marine or aquatic resources, where areas
how the gear is used in the fishing method. It is also the process of repairing and maintenance of
catching in any aquatic animals using fishing gear.
O. Fish Capture
- Fish capture refers to all kinds of harvesting of naturally occurring living resources in both
marine and freshwater environments.
On a broad level, capture fisheries can be classified as industrial, small-scale/artisanal and
recreational.

Course Activities
A more specific level includes reference to the fishing area, gear and the main target species,
such as the North Sea herring purse seine fishery, Gulf of Mexico shrimp trawl fishery, southern
ocean Patagonian toothfish longline fishery.
P. Fish Wharf Operation
- Fish port/ Wharf Operation NC 1 is a short TESDA course in the Philippines that will train you
in handling fish and fish products in fish ports or wharves
Some examples of skills that you will acquire from taking course include :
 Applying safety measures in operation
 Using tools and equipment
 Performing estimation and calculations
 Applying food safety and sanitation
 Unloading and loading fish and fish products
 Classifying fish and fish products

Q. Fish Products Packaging

- Fish and seafood have a high nutritional value but are at the same time sensitive, perishable
foods. Packaging protects the products from harm and contributes towards reducing losses
during transport, storage or at the retailer’s. The functions that packaging has to fulfil are
accordingly diverse. And requirements are constantly growing, for the materials used to produce
it are today expected to be as sustainable and recyclable as possible.
What is true for products in general applies to fish and seafood in particular. Packaging
maintains product quality, offers protection, and facilitates movement of goods and handling.
Because there is a different packaging solution for almost every need and application, fish
products are often repacked several times on their journey from source to the finished product.
Producers and exporters tend to prefer bulk packaging from shatterpack to interleaved that is
robust enough to withstand the demands of global seafood trade and at the same time guarantee
that the products arrive at the customer’s undamaged and in optimal quality. Although the
requirements of product packaging in wholesaling and retailing are basically similar further
functions are necessary at the retailer’s. There, packaging has to appeal to the final customer, it
should offer specific information, and also serve as a buying incentive.
Fish Products Packaging NC II is a short TESDA course in the philippines that will train you in
packaging fish products using a variety of methods.
Some examples of skills that you will acquire from enrolling in this course include :
Applying food safety and sanitation
Using standard measuring devices/instruments

- TESDA offers a lot of technical-vocational course that can be the key for an entry-level job
both locally and overseas. Food processing course is one of the food-related courses offered in
many schools accredited by TESDA. This course involves food handling, packaging, and
operating common food processing equipment. This short program will let a student know how
to practice food safety and sanitation prior of packaging processed or finished food products.
