Merits of brick flooring:

 It is durable and sufficiently hard.

Merits
 Easy installation
 Known to last for a lifetime. It has long shelf life.

 Floors require regular polishing every 3-4 years to maintain its
finish
 Damaged in the event of any water seepage.
 Hardwood floors finish is susceptible to scratching from heavy

MURUM FLOORING
Merits
 It’s cheap
 Smooth, hard and impervious surface
 It is east to construct
 It has sufficiently long life if properly maintained
 It maintains comfortable temperature in all seasons
Demerits
For perfect maintenance of the surface it has to be given
cement cow-dung wash once or twice a week. This may be
objectionable from sanitary consideration.
GLASS FLOORING
Merits
 Aesthetically pleasing
 Great insulation
 Easy to clean
Demerits
 Breaks easily compared to other floorings
 Mining of glass sand results in particulate emissions,
soil erosion, and pollutant runoff.
 After demolition much glass is disposed off in landfill
without reuse or recycles.
UNGLAZED TILE FLOORING
Merits
 Mixable colours and shapes.
 Moisture and stain-resistant which are easy to maintain.
  It can be very affordable not only for purchasing materials but
for installation purposes also.

Demerits

 Tile floor can be cold & hard on the feet; can be very slippery
when it is wet.
 Tile can crack or chip depending on the quality of installation
MAGNESITE FLOORING
Merits
 Magnesite flooring was made from a mixture of calcite magnesite and magnesium
chloride solution with various fillers (e.g. wood flour, sawdust, asbestos). It was
typically laid between 10 and 25mm thick, but two coat applications could be up to
50mm thick.
Demerits
 Magnesite floorings are very vulnerable to dampness. Chlorides may migrate from
the magnesite into the concrete below and corrode any reinforcement or gas and
water pipes. Most magnesite floors are now coming to the end of their life, only if
they can be guaranteed to remain unaffected by moisture can they be used as a
screed to receive other floorings, otherwise the flooring should be replaced.
VITRIFIED TILE FLOORING
Merits

 They are more durable and scratch resistant. Vitrified tiles are
consistent in sizes, shades and thickness.
 Vitrified tiles are easier to install and have very less water
absorption and are stain resistant. And prevent bacteria and fungi
from growing and It is easy to clean as it has shiny surface.

Demerits
 Tiles need to be installed by an expert tile layer to ensure thin, even
and neat joints between the tiles.
 The major disadvantage of vitrified tiles is that they are more
expensive.
