The original system also includes an emergency combination remedy. Other pre-mixed
combinations are offered by many remedy producers, but they tend to be ineffective because
they are not chosen individually.

The traditional crisis remedies

is the most famous of the remedies, but in fact is not ‘a remedy’ at all. Instead it’s a blend of
five different remedies:

 Rock Rose
 Impatiens
 Cherry Plum
 Star of Bethlehem
 Clematis

This mix was created by Dr Bach to deal with emergencies and crises – the moments when
there is no time to make a proper individual selection of remedies. It can be used to help us
get through any stressful moments, from last-minute exam nerves to the aftermath of an
accident.

The best-known make of the crisis formula is sold under the brand name Rescue Remedy –
but every remedy maker has its own version of this formula.

The crisis formula is designed to help deal with immediate problems. If you are working
through an underlying problem – or if you need rescuing every day – you will find a longer-
term solution by selecting a personal blend of remedies.

The cream version

…of the crisis formula contains the same five remedies as the liquid, with the addition
of Crab Apple, the cleansing remedy. This formula dates from the early 1960s and was put
together by Dr Bach’s assistant, Nora Weeks.

The cream is also an emergency combination, and a convenient way of applying the crisis
formula externally to bumps and bruises of all kinds.

Most remedy makers produce a version of the cream. Again, the best-known brand is sold
under the name Rescue.

Other premixed formulas

Some remedy manufacturers offer premixed combinations that claim to treat specific
problems such as sleeplessness, tiredness, exam stress and even weight and relationship
issues.
Be wary of these products. The traditional crisis formula has shown over time that it contains
something helpful for almost any emergency. The same isn’t true of situation- and symptom-
specific mixes. They tend to be ineffective because they are not chosen for the individual.

For example, insomnia may be caused by many remedy states, including those associated
with Vervain, Aspen, Mimulus, Agrimony and Red Chestnut. Yet the most popular of the
premixed blends against sleeplessness contains none of these remedies.

The only effective way to deal with specific non-emergency situations is to make a personal
selection.

In my work as an astrologer, flower essence practitioner, and tarot consultant, I’ve been
honoured to work with thousands of clients across the globe. In my work, the ‘embodiment
principle’ has been paramount, assisting individuals through the process of finding a safe
home within the body.
Humanity’s intricate human experience consists of layer upon layer of karmic imprints,
memory, cellular DNA, family origins, and an extraordinarily complex, yet simple, energy
known as Chi, or, Universal Energy. This magnetic flow of vitality empowers body, mind,
and soul, supporting the Vibrational Flow within the entire body. It is also known as the
Chakra System; the seven (plus) vertical orbs of light that balance the vertical alignment of
focus and balance within the human body.
The chakras appear in many traditions, and have been studied in the schools of yoga and
tantra. This life force has many names and cultural associations such as Prana, Chi, Holy
Spirit, Kundalini, Manna, Tao, and Body Matrix, and can be adjusted and maintained like
any other part of the human body.
The seven chakras are located along the central channel that corresponds to the spine in the
physical body. This energetic pathway is also known as the ‘Rainbow Bridge’, a living link
between Heaven and Earth. Ancient depictions of the chakra system show the life force in
the form of a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. Various yogic techniques and exercises
help practitioners activate this potent spiritual energy. The martial art known as Tai Chi
means, rainbow energy, and is one modality that assists the individual to harmonize the
entire body and fill it with Living Light.
The seven chakras move upward throughout the body in the color sequence of the rainbow.
Each of the seven chakras is associated with a particular organ of the body, emotion, spiritual
energy, and life vibration.
I will explore each of the seven chakras, connecting each to specific flower essences.
(Flower essences, a vibrational healing system, floods each chakra with light and balancing
energies.)
First Chakra: Located at the base of the spine and the back of the knees. Its Sanskrit name is
Muladhara, meaning, “root support.” It is associated with the color red, the element of earth,
and the sense of smell. This Chakra connects one to the earth and reveals patterns related to
issues of insecurity, fear, greed, safety, and prosperity.
Red relates to self-awareness, representing survival, stability and grounding. The color red
provides power that is accessed from the core of the earth, extending energy throughout the
entire neurological system. Everything that is to be commenced needs the life vitality of red.
Flower Essences: Hibiscus, Pomegranate, Fulva Red Iris, Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine,
Apple Blossom, Rose, and Angelica, Mountain Pride, Shooting Star, Aloe Vera and
Manzanita.
Second Chakra: Located between the pubic bone and the naval. Its Sanskrit name
is Svadhishthana, meaning, “dwelling place of the self.” It is associated with the color
orange, the element water, and the sense of taste. This chakra aligns a person with the
procreative organs, the pelvis, the sacrum, and the soles of the feet. The patterns of
imbalance associated with this energy center are creative stagnation, fear, sterility, lust,
inertia, and unconscious somatic memories.
Orange is the color of success, passions, sexuality, and creativity. An emotional stimulant,
orange aligns the individual to the senses, helping with inhibitions. Tapping into one’s
universal life flow magnetizes the individual boosting adaptability, independence, social
prowess, creativity, and freedom.
Flower essences: Hibiscus, Zinnia, California Poppy, Oriental Poppy, Fireweed, Fuchsia,
Indian Paintbrush, Iris, and Mimulus,
Third Chakra: Located in the solar plexus, the lumbar spine, and the umbilicus. Its Sanskrit
name is Manipura, meaning “city of jewels.” It is associated with the color yellow, the
element fire, and the sense of sight. This chakra is also associated with digestion. The key
patterns of imbalance are anger, self-denial and lack of integrity, inertia, confidence and an
inability to take leadership. When in balance, the third charka helps us to accept our own
individuality and to feel ‘at home’ on earth.
Yellow relates to self worth and how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive us.
This is the area of ego and will. Yellow offers clarity of thought, increases awareness, and
stimulates curiosity.
Flower Essences: Blackberry, Sunflower, Buttercup, Dandelion, Mustard, Evening Primrose,
Glacier Lily, Meadow Blend, Wall Flower and Sweet Pea.
Fourth Chakra: This energy center is located between the shoulder blades, the heart region,
and the palms of the hands. Its Sanskrit name is Anahata, meaning, “unstruck.” Mostly
known as the Heart Chakra and associated with the color green, it activates the sense of
touch. This chakra aligns the respiratory and circulatory systems with emotional energies.
Patterns of imbalance create over-attachment and neediness, an inability to receive,
emotional paralysis, feelings of abandonment, sexual dissatisfaction, and conditional love.
Green relates to love and the ability to give and receive unconditionally. When balanced, the
individual offers love freely learning to nurture self and others. When in alignment one may
relax the muscles and experience a soothing of nerves and thoughts. This chakra cleanses
the auric field wherein a sense of renewal may be restored.
Flower Essences, Nootka Rose, Bleeding Heart, Purple Crocus, White Crocus, Apple
Blossom, White Magnolia, Lavender, Phlox, and Forget Me Not.
Fifth Chakra: This energy center is located at the back of the neck and throat region. Its
Sanskrit name is Vishuddha, meaning “pure.” Mostly known as the Throat Chakra, and
associated with the color blue and the element ether or space, it activates the sense of hearing
and speaking. This chakra purifies communication and speech patterns. Patterns of
imbalance include unresolved grief, fear of judgment, speech impediments, hesitancy,
decision-making and all hindrances related to self-expression and inspiration.
Blue relates to self-expression, speech and communication. It activates the Spirit of Truth
and Purpose. A mentally relaxing color, blue has a pacifying effect on the nervous system
and can assist with sleep problems, hyperactive children, and nervous energy. The color
blue inspires holistic thought; the aspect of human development that inspires wisdom, clarity
and self-expression through speech.
Flower Essences: Snap Dragon, Morning Glory, Lilac, Angel’s Trumpet, Borage, Giant Blue
Iris, Larkspur and Violet.
Sixth Chakra: This energy center is located on the forehead and between the eyebrows. Its
Sanskrit name is Ajna, meaning “command” or “perception.” Known as the Third Eye, the
color indigo/cobalt transcends the elements and activates the physical senses, opening the
gateway to cosmic attunement. It invigorates the cerebellum. Patterns of imbalance include
lack of vision, imagination, and an inability to connect with devotion and higher love.
Indigo relates to responsibility; responsibility for one's Higher -099Understanding and
Divine Guidance. This chakra energy center, when in balance, motivates one to follow the
soul's path with trust. The key work is intuition; the ability to see things from a 'higher'
viewpoint rather than through the ego of desire. The indigo energy connects the individual
with the unconscious self, and offers the experience of Universal Wholeness. When in
balance one is endowed with intuition, imagination, psychic powers, and increased dream
activity.
Flower Essences: Cat’s Ear, Purple Water Lily, Sagebrush, Silversword, Pansy, Passion
Flower, Queen of the Night, and Ashley Michelle Iris.
Seventh Chakra: This energy center is located at the top of the head. Its Sanskrit name is
Sahasrara, meaning “thousand-petaled lotus.” Known as the Crown Chakra, this chakra is
associated with the color violet, and reaches beyond space and time into the highest realms
of the infinite and eternal. It controls the cerebral cortex and opens one to very high spiritual
vibrations. Patterns of imbalance include self-delusion, escapism, lack of clarity, and a
tendency to glamorize the spiritual world or indulge in spiritual materialism. In balance the
individual is illumined with intuitive guidance and the gift of ‘seeing.’
Violet relates to self-knowledge and spiritual awareness. The highest potential of this energy
is union with the Light Body. The violet energy connects us to our spiritual purification that
may enhance focus and connection with meditation, yoga, dreams, and universal
understanding.
Flower Essences: Lotus, Orchid, Bells of Ireland, Fig, Silversword, and Cat’s Ear.

Bach Flower Remedies: Correspondences with the Chakras

listed in flower essences, originally published in issue 158 - May 2009
It was in the early 1990s that I first came across the Dr Bach's Flower remedies. I was
introducing a speaker from the Bach Centre to an Association of Reflexologists Meeting.

I found the whole talk fascinating, and so began my journey with the essences. Like most
people, although I did my best to learn as much as I could about the individual essences, I
did find that sometimes I struggled to identify the appropriate essence, or was unable to
decide between differing explanations. I also found it very hard to suggest to someone that
they might require say Heather (often described as the Emotional Vampire!), or Willow
(Poor Me), often finding resistance in clients to what may be plain to others.

In 1992 Phil (my now partner and soon to be husband Philip Salmon) suggested that I teach
his Reflexology Course with him. One of the reasons I was keen to do so was that he had
incorporated the use of Journal work and Bach Flower essences into the self-development
side of the course. Our students have always been introduced to the essences and encouraged
to use them. They found them helpful, but many only used them when they were with us, or
would ask for direction as to which ones to take. They would find 38 essences too many to
be able to decide which was appropriate. It helped when we introduced using the positive
qualities, but many still found it a struggle.

Phil had had a conversation with an old friend a few years before who had said that he was
sure the groups Dr Bach put the remedies in were related to the Chakras, but as he didn't say
how or mention it again, Phil had not thought about it until we were looking for a way to
help our students to use them more easily.
Phil is a Colour Therapist among his other many qualifications, and I had spent a lot of time
studying the chakras and we were both drawn to the coincidence of there being 7 groups.
When we looked carefully at the names of the groups – we began to see that, in fact, the
name given to a group seemed to be the expression of the Chakra, as it would manifest when
out of balance. We went through them with a mixture of meditation, prayer, brain storming,
and what I now recognize as channelling. When we were finished, we decided the best way
to check it out was to work with the system and see if it helped. We were very encouraged
by how much more easily our students were able to find the appropriate essence and adopt it
as a therapeutic tool.
We were encouraged and a little dismayed when we checked our hypothesis against Dr
Bach's Chart. We were encouraged, even elated, that his chart, still reproduced today,
deemed the groups important enough for him to deliberately specify the colours for each.
With the exception of one, they are the generally accepted rainbow colours of the chakras.
Our dismay was the one colour which did not appear to be correct. There are a couple of
explanations that we feel are reasonable. On the chart below you see that the Brow Chakra is
denoted as Turquoise on Dr Bach's chart, while the traditional Brow chakra colour is Indigo.
Dr Bach was a very intuitive man and also worked very much from the heart; we feel he
could have understood his intuition to be centred at the thymus chakra area, and so used the
colour of that chakra. It is also possible that his 'code' had an error written into it, as a check
that someone interpreting it would understand what the whole picture should look like, or
very mundanely he might have been told that the printer could not use indigo as the printed
words would not show up! Who knows, take your pick.

This is a very small snap shot of the way the groups relate to the chakras. Within each group
there are more subtle relationships to the different strands of emotion at each level. We wrote
all the relationships up in 1996 and our book was self published in 1998. The latest edition
was published in 2006 and is Dr Bach's Flower Remedies – tapping into the positive
emotional qualities of the chakras. We have been fortunate to be asked to write and teach the
Bach Essence Course for Ainsworths, the Homeopathic Pharmacy that produce their own
wonderful range of Bach Essences. On the courses, we teach a traditional understanding in
Bach Flower 1. In Bach Flower 2 we work with the chakras and the groups. It is a very
popular aspect to the courses.
As an example let's take the smallest group of Loneliness which we see as the Crown
Chakra. There are 3 essences in this group. The Chakra quality is our connection to the
Divine. It is our real sense of being a soul presence, not being just an earthly soul, but that
there is 'something more'. When we are cut off from that understanding, we experience a
profound feeling of loneliness. Even with friends and family around us, we feel there is no
one who can help us or who understands.

Impatiens
When we look individually at the essences, there are three within the group, Water Violet,
Impatiens and Heather. We see Water Violet as being the essence that most closely
resembles the energy of the Lotus Flower. It has its roots in the earth below water, and then
grows through the water, into the air (using fire energy) and then blossoms at the point of
realization or change and healing. We can imagine it as representing the 'staff of life' through
the Caduceus. The two other essences are the polarities of yin and yang at the crown chakra
point. Impatiens represents the active energy which is patient and understanding while
connected, but can become impatient with others when over energized. Heather, on the other
hand, is the more receptive energy, a good listener and a supporting influence, which when
disconnected, loses empowerment or is under energized, and becomes reliant on others to
enliven them.
Water Violet
 Case Studies
At a recent class a student was concerned about her young daughter. She felt her daughter
was a very sensitive child and very self-aware. She loved colours and crystals. She was
concerned that her daughter did not make friends easily and tended to withdraw at school.
Her teachers had said the other children found her to be a bit stand offish, although when in
the presence of family she was confident and outgoing. I suggested Water Violet and the
student emailed me a few weeks later saying that there was a profound difference in her
daughter at school. She had joined the drama group and was also inviting 'friends' home to
tea. Usually Water Violet is always very aware of their place in universe – their problem,
especially for children, can be to understand those that are not so aware. They find it difficult
to relate to them and so withdraw, often being misinterpreted as being aloof and stand offish.
This is an example of how quickly children can change as their energy is light and adaptable.
I personally have a long and happy relationship with Impatiens. I use it in a very different
way. It is what I would call one of my Core issue essences, and I accept that I will probably
still be taking it in my dotage!
I have lots of ideas (yes I also use Clematis) and have lots of energy, but I do sometimes get
irritated by those that work at a less intense level or at a slower pace. I can be very impatient
when things do not progress as quickly as I would like. Having said that – I do find I run to
the bottle (of Impatiens) less often than I used to. I now tend to suggest a walk rather than
chase some elusive result. This is definitely a change for the better.
+Before I give you an example of Heather, I must explain a further development in the way
we have been working with the essences. If you are aware that someone is behaving in a way
that indicates they may need a specific essence, we can further empower ourselves by
accepting that if we create our own reality, it follows that we have attracted that experience
to help us. If we then take the essence ourselves we clear that energy, and the person will no
longer inflict that negativity onto us. In other words 'you have no client but yourselves'.

Heather
In one class a student was trying to decide which essence she wanted to try in the Crown
group and I had one in my hand which I said, try this. I did not know which it was. She
gasped – It's Heather! And promptly burst into tears. It transpired that she was being bullied
at work and had got to the point of intending to leave. I suggested she take the remedy; she
contacted me several weeks later and reported that her aggressor had been on holiday when
she returned to work. Left to her own devices she realized that she really enjoyed her job.
Out of the blue, the colleague was moved to another department and is now no problem.

We have had some interesting conversations as to whether Edward Bach knew that the seven
groups he put his essences into related to the chakras. As an intuitive man it is perfectly
possible that his guidance was without his realization. However, we do know that he was a
student of Paracelsus work, and as a Mason would have esoteric understanding. He knew
there was a link to the astrological forces and a letter published in Collected Writings of
Edward Bach gives us an insight into his attitude to further work being done into the
essences. In a letter probably addressed to The Naturopathic Journal sent on 29th October
1933 he wrote '........I am being cautious as regards astrology, and that is why one left out the
signs and the months in the first Twelve Healers. This work is decidedly going to assist
vastly in the purification and understanding of Astrology, but my part seems to be to give
general principles, whereby people like you who have a more detailed knowledge, may
discover a great truth......'
We regard the Essences as a complete system of healing – that is they require no other
essences to be added to their number. Bach did seem from the above to feel that there were
levels of relationships that he had not yet entirely understood, and therefore he did not want
to be too rigid in the presentation of his ideas.
This has enabled us to develop the work even further, and we are aware that there are also
ways in which the essences balance the energy as it travels into consciousness, and then back
up through the chakras with a predominant yin or Yang action. Once we can relate the
essences to the chakras, it opens up several new ways to use them. For instance, as our
consciousness travels up from the base chakra towards higher consciousness, we can identify
the seven ages of man and which essences would be appropriate to help release shock and
trauma at any particular point in life. The one I am most excited about is tracking the energy
flow from Inspiration to Manifestation, which enables us to identify seven levels of energy
we must create if we want to achieve any outcome. This is not significant for those who are
accomplished creators! However it is helpful for those that have problems even manifesting
the simplest things, to be able to not only see where they are blocking energy flow, but to
then take an essence or essences that will help to release the block! I have called this process
the 'Annasation Technique' as the Bach Essences are one of the ways we use to clear these
blocks.
As Dr Bach found, there will always be people who would prefer that someone else will 'put
them right' and as such there is now a thriving 'Practitioner world' out there; however, we are
committed to encouraging people from all walks of life to use the Essences themselves – for
themselves and their families. Any way of being able to easily choose appropriate essences,
seems to us to be a positive force.
“...I feel very strongly there is an intelligence at work in every flower, in every blade of
grass, in every cell of my body.” ~ Eckart Tolle

As you walk through a garden or floral shop, which flowers usually catch your eye? The red
roses? The white lilies? The soft lavender? With their simple presence, flowers have a
mystical way of raising our spirits as well as the vibrational energy of any room.
Subconsciously, we tend to draw toward the flowers that most closely match our desired
state of being.

Each flower has a unique color and essence that vibrationally corresponds with one or more
of the seven chakras in our body. Meditating upon a particular flower, therefore, can help us
open and align any chakras that may need healing.

According to the philosophy of yoga, there are seven main chakras, or vortexes, that move
life force energy (prana) through our bodies. They are the meeting points of consciousness
and matter. Each chakra is vibrating at a different frequency and responds to similar
vibrations of light (color). In fact, chakras are often visualized as lotuses or flowers.

If you are feeling a block in your emotions, plant or buy some beautiful flowers that match
the vibration of the corresponding chakra. Place the flowers in a pot or vase where you can
see them often. You can also use a photo or painting of that flower. As you gaze upon the
flower, ponder the qualities you’d like to develop. For example, if you’re lacking in
willpower, you may have solar plexus (yellow) chakra blockages. Bring in beautiful black-
eyed Susans and focus on the quality of mental strength.

Root Chakra

Also known as muladhara, the root chakra is located at the base of the spine. It includes the
first three vertebrae, the bladder and the colon. Essentially, it is the ‘survival’ chakra that
carries the energies of stability, security, groundedness and your deepest emotions regarding
your physical body. It is represented by the color red, the slowest of all wavelengths in the
visible spectrum, but also the most physically stimulating. If your root chakra is feeling
blocked --  if you are feeling unstable, insecure or fearful -- you may want to plant or buy
some bold red roses, hibiscus or poinsettias.

Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra, or svadhisthana, is located between the pubic bone and navel and
encompasses the genital and urinary systems. It is responsible for creative expression,
manifestation, and issues of control and sex. It matches the vibrational frequency of orange
and is represented by the tiger lily, hibiscus, marigold and bird of paradise. Writer’s block?
Having control issues? Meditate on one of these flowers and dwell on the qualities of
creativity or ‘letting go.’

Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra, or manipura, is located between the navel and the breastbone. It is
associated with intellect, self-esteem, self-confidence and willpower. It is linked to the color
yellow and is symbolized by black-eyed Susan, dandelions, daffodils, honeysuckle and
chamomile. When you are lacking in willpower or confidence, meditate on one of these
flowers and focus on the qualities of assertiveness and confidence.

Heart Chakra

The heart chakra, or anahata, is the fourth and central chakra; it is the bridge between the
lower chakras of matter and the upper chakras of spirit --  the meeting point of body and
spirit. It includes the entire circulatory and immune systems. As its name suggests, it is the
chakra of love, compassion and generosity. This includes love for others, ourselves and God.
This chakra is associated with the deep green that is found in grass and stems and leaves of
all types. As love is also linked to the color red, many flowers associated with the heart
chakra display red, or pink, as well. Flowers associated with the heart chakra of love include
roses, carnations, azaleas, hibiscus and orchids.

Throat Chakra

The throat chakra, or vishuddha, includes the neck, thyroid, jaw, mouth and tongue. It carries
the energies of verbal expression and speaking our highest truth. It vibrates at the color blue
and is represented by hyacinths, bluebells and morning glories. If you are feeling a block in
communication with a partner or feel that you are not being heard, bring one of these
beautiful blue flowers into your home and meditate on the value of expressing your highest
truth.

Third Eye Chakra

The sixth chakra is the third eye chakra, or ajna. The center of intuition, the third eye chakra
is located between the eyebrows and is associated with a deep indigo. Do you need to open
your intuition? Plant or bring in some hydrangea, lilac, lavender, sweet pea, violets or
petunias.

Crown Chakra

The crown chakra, or sahasrara, represents enlightenment and spiritual connection to our
higher selves, others and God. It is located at the crown of the head and expresses itself in
the color violet or white. As you work on your higher spiritual connections, surround
yourself with white lilies, jasmine, periwinkle or geraniums

The 7 Bach Flower groups makes it easier for us to separate the Bach Flower Remedies into
feelings, such as  fear, despair, loneliness, uncertainty etc.
When we ask ourselves, how do I feel? Do I feel fear, what kind of fear? Do I feel despair,
what kind of despair? Then the groups can aid us and determine which of the Bach Flower
Remedies will help us get our emotional balance restored.

The Bach Flower Remedies are so simple to use that no science, no knowledge is necessary
apart from the simple method described above.
 For Those Who Have Fear
 For Those Who Suffer Uncertainty
 Insufficient interest in present circumstances
 Loneliness
 Over-sensitivity to influences and ideas

they are anxious to be free from the one particular thing which is greatest in their minds and which seems
so essential to them that it should be cured. They become despondent if treatment fails. Being a cleanser,
