Senior's Plea: Remove Basketball Ring

Mrs. Concepcion M. Gaviola wrote a letter of complaint to Barangay Captain Ringo Pacaña requesting the removal of her neighbor Alma Sosa's basketball ring. The basketball games held near the ring were disruptive, with the ball frequently hitting her gate and waking her grandson. The games also occurred at all hours of the day and night, disturbing her sleep as a senior citizen and affecting her mental well-being and blood pressure. Previous requests to the neighbor to remove the ring were denied. Removal of the ring is proper as the games are held in a public road, affect other neighbors, and attract suspicious individuals that could pose a burglary risk to the neighborhood.

Hon. Ringo Pacaña

Barangay Captain

Barangay Tisa, Cebu City

COMPLAINT

RE: Removal of Basketball Ring

Dear Hon. Ringo Pacaña,

Good day! I hope this letter finds you well.

I am writing this letter of complaint with the hopes of having my neighbor’s basketball ring

removed.

My neighbor, Alma Sosa, also a resident of Felina Village, lives directly across my residence.

Some time last year, she ordered the construction of a basketball ring on a pole outside her

house. To my knowledge, the ring was constructed for her children’s benefit. However, months

later, the basketball ring attracted players. These people were mostly young adults. At first, the

gathering of these players was unproblematic until recently.

Since basketball can be a very robust game, the ball can sometimes bounce to our gate. This

results into repeated banging that is not only annoying but also discomforting. One time, the ball

was slammed too hard that awakened my grandson who was sleeping on the second floor of our
house. The basketball games happen at different times of the day. There were several occasions

that the games are held during nighttime till dawn.

In previous attempts, we asked our neighbor to remove the ring to discontinue the basketball

games. To no avail, our request was denied.

Other than the fact that my personal space is violated, there are several reasons why I think that

the removal of the basketball ring is proper. First, the basketball games are held at a public road.

Second, this problem affects other neighbors as well. Third, the games gathered suspicious-

looking men to our neighborhood. Burglars had transgressed our house before. We do not want

to have the same experience ever again. Lastly, the noise and destruction that the games cause

affects my mental well-being. I am a senior citizen with frail senses. Both my sleep routine and

blood pressure levels were disturbed.

I pray that you find value to my sentiments and have the basketball ring removed. I am hoping

for your kindest consideration.

Most Respectfully Yours,

Mrs. Concepcion M. Gaviola
