Internet 1st Year Exam

This document contains an English exam for first year secondary students with a scientific stream. The exam has two parts: Part one includes a reading comprehension passage about the advantages and disadvantages of computer and internet use, followed by comprehension questions. Part two asks students to choose between two writing topics - either describing how to create a Facebook account, or writing an application letter for a dream job. The reading passage discusses how computer use is now widespread but excessive indoor time on computers can isolate students socially. While computers are useful, overdependence on the internet can harm social skills and eyesight. Parents and educators must guide students' internet use. The exam tests vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and written expression skills.

TALIA ABDELKADER SECONDARY SCHOOL School Year 2019/2020

First year (Scientific stream)

First Term Examination of English

Part one:
A) Reading comprehension (8pts)
Read the following text then do the activities below:

Nowadays, the world is dominated by computer technology. Some sociologists

believe that, in the near future, our children could stay at home and study through their
PC’s.
The computer is a very useful device which helps people to solve many issues
more rapidly; however, staying indoor with the machine may cut off the students from
their social environment. One of the worst disadvantages of the internet is that they
become too dependent on it. Their social relations are no more active because of the lack
of communication with others at school or university. As a result we can say that the
internet is becoming epidemic for our youths, especially when they use it badly, without
a close watch by their parents. The students already consider the internet as a brother
or even their best friend.
In many cases, the internet has caused the disintegration of the family unity. In
addition, the internet addicted groups harm their sight during long hours in front of the
small screen. Being parents or educators, we are all responsible for guiding them to the
right path.
