Lesson Plan 4th Graders

Time: 50 minutes
Interaction: class work, pair work, individual work
Materials: board, coursebooks, notebooks, video projector, worksheets, the British Council
site.
Competences: 1.1, 1.3, 2.2, 4.2
Lesson aims: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
- practise newly introduced vocabulary structures
-write words that a superhero would tell in a conversation with another superhero
-put the lyrics into the right order after listening to the song
Assumptions: -I assume that the students won’t understand some things so I will take more
time into explaining words.
-students might be reluctant when it comes to speaking in front of the class.
-time might be insufficient so what remains undone will be HW.

Activity 1: Warmer
The T checks HW and then describes the Ss her favourite cartoon character which they have to
guess.
e.g. He is a student. He can fly high with the help of spider threads. He was bitten by a spider.
(Spiderman)
Now that they have guessed the character they have to think of another one and say one
characteristic of him/her.
Aim: to improve vocabulary items by saying adjectives describing their cartoon character.
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Teacher’s role: introducing the lesson and helping Ss with words.
Time: 5 minutes

Activity 2: Lead in
The T writes Superhero on the board and asks Ss to tell her what superheroes can do. The T also
introduces some words as she can spin around, she can shrink, he can lift up heavy objects, he
can stretch very far, he can freeze things, which they will have to match with the right picture.
(APPENDIX 1)
e.g. he can fly, he can become invisible, he can fly into space, he can run fast etc.
Aim: to improve vocabulary items by matching the new words with the right pictures.
Interaction: T-Ss, S-S, Ss-T
Teacher’s role: monitoring the activity helping them if necessary

Time: 10 minutes
Activity 3: Guided practice
The T plays the song Amazing superheroes from the British Council site and asks Ss to put the
lyrics into the right order. She plays the song twice or as many times as the Ss need to complete
the task.
Aim: to develop listening skills by putting the lyrics into the right order.
Interaction: T-Ss, S-S, S-T
Teacher’s role: monitoring the activity helping Ss with the song by stopping it when
necessary.
Time: 10 minutes

Activity 4: Further practice


The T gives Ss a worksheet with a text with the description of a cartoon character. They have to
answer the questions with T/F. (APPENDIX 2)
Aim: to improve reading comprehension by answering the questions.
Interaction: T-Ss, S-S, S-T
Teacher’s role: monitoring the activity helping Ss if necessary.
Time: 8 minutes

Activity 5: Consolidation
Ss get a piece of paper on which they two superheroes. They have to write a mini-dialogue
between the two by saying what they can/can’t do. (APPENDIX 3)
Aim: to improve writing skills by making a very short dialogue
Interaction: T-Ss, S-S, S-T
Teacher’s role: monitoring the activity helping Ss if necessary.
Time: 7

Activity 6: Feedback and Peer assessment


The Ss get in front of the class and read their short dialogues. The other Ss choose the dialogue
they liked best.
Aim: to improve writing skills by making a very short dialogue
Interaction: T-Ss, S-S, S-T
Teacher’s role: monitoring the activity helping Ss if necessary.
Time: 7 minutes

Activity 7: Homework
The Ss get a worksheet on which they have to complete the chart with the right information.
They have to invent a superhero and write all the details about his/her life. (APPENDIX 4)
Aim: to improve writing skills by completing the chart.
Interaction: T-Ss
Teacher’s role: monitoring the activity helping Ss if necessary.
Time: 3 minutes
