Type Tests
The relay has been type tested successfully at Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) Bangalore, as per the
requirements of IEC 60255, for electrical performance.
The relay has also been type tested successfully at Electronic Test and Development Centre (ETDC), Chennai
and Bangalore, for Disturbance Withstand, Mechanical Environment and Atmospheric Environment,
as per the requirements of relevant IEC and other international specifications.
Description
Type VN100R relay is basically a micro-processor based numerical protection relay, designed primarily
for over current and earth fault protection, using the well accepted time - current grading principle.
It is a versatile and simple relay offering different inverse time- current and definite time-current
characteristics, which are selectable at site as per the requirements.
The relay uses a single processor which is programmed to give different characteristics for over
current and earth fault protection.
The auxiliary power supply unit is designed for a wide range of DC and AC voltages.
The relay can be used with 1 amp or 5 amp secondary current transformers, and the rated current
is selectable on the relay.
The relay has a LCD screen on which the relay settings, pre-fault current etc.. are indicated.
The settings and selection of characteristic curves are carried out by a soft touch keypad
( MMC- Man Machine Communication) provided on the front panel of the relay .
Operation indication is by means of super bright LEDs, which are reset by means of a push button
provided on the front panel of the relay.
The relay is designed to have an in-built continuous supervision feature, and any internal fault in
the relay circuits is indicated by means of a ‘Relay Faulty’ LED on the front panel of the relay. Two
terminals are also available on the relay for connecting to a remote ‘Relay Faulty’ alarm.
Sufficient number of normally open and change - over contacts are provided for tripping and alarm
functions. The contacts have good ‘make’ and ‘break’ current ratings.
The relay is provided with one Binary input and one Binary output.These can be used for
applications such as ‘post closing trip circuit supervision’.
The relay is mounted in a compact, non-drawout type case,suitable for flush or projection
mounting on panels
