RULES, PROCEDURE AND GUIDELINES OF THE COMPETITION
I. GENERAL RULES
A. The competition is open for students who are studying LL.B. three year or B.A.LL.B. five year
course during the current academic year 2019-20.
B. Each participating team shall comprise of minimum of two (2) members and maximum of three (3),
wherein two (2) members, shall be designated as Speakers and one (1) member as Researcher
(optional).
C. Arguments shall be in English language only
D. Each participant shall be provided with a participant code by the organizing committee which shall
be mentioned on the front page of the memorials.
E. There will be no substitution of team member after a team has submitted its Registration form,
Except with the permission of the organizers
F. Cancellation of Participation is be allowed to any team whatever the scenario might be.
FEE ONCE PAID IS NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE
II. REGISTRATION
A. Teams are supposed to complete their Registration by 12 July, 2020 by 23:59 hours IST.
B. The Registration Fee is Rs. 750. The Registration shall be done by filling up the Application form,

C. The number of participating teams is limited and hence, the registrations will be done on first come
first serve basis.
D. The Registration shall be deemed complete only when the Registration fee has been remitted
successfully and the Application form is duly filled.
E. Once the application form is filled, the OC shall send a confirmation mail to the teams [within 24
hours of registration], which shall consists an app link through which they will be connecting for
video conferencing.
F. The teams will quote the Team Code once allotted, for any further communications with the OC.
III. MEMORANDUM
A. Each Team participating in the Competition must prepare a memorandum on behalf of the
Prosecutor/Applicant and on the behalf of the Defendant/Respondent.
B. Each team must send its memoranda via e-mail to the Legal Zems at legalzems@gmail.com
latest by 20 July, 2020 by 23:59 hours IST. Please note that NO HARD COPIES ARE TO BE
SUBMITTED.
C. Any memorial submitted after the deadline is be subject to penalty for late submission.

D. The Memorial must contain the following parts only:
i. The Cover Page (not Exceeding 1 page)
ii. Table of Contents (not Exceeding 2 page)
iii. List of Abbreviations (not Exceeding 1 Page)
iv. Index of Authorities / Table of Cases (not Exceeding 2 pages)
v. Statement of Jurisdiction (not Exceeding 1 page)
vi. Statement of Facts (not Exceeding 2 page)
vii. Statement of Issues (not Exceeding 1 page)
viii. Summary of Arguments (not Exceeding 5 page)
ix. Arguments Advanced/Detailed Arguments. (not Exceeding 12 Page)
x. Prayer (not Exceeding 1 page)
NOTE: The Table of Contents must be hyperlinked for the ready reference of the
Judges.
E. The Cover page shall include:
i. The Name of the Court
ii. The Year of the Competition
iii. The Name of the Case
iv. The Name of the parties
v. Team Code to be indicated at the top right corner in bold. (For example – LZ-P011 and
LZ-R011) which shall be intimated to the respective teams.
vi. The title of the Document (i.e. “Memorial for Petitioner” or “Memorial for
Respondent”)
F. The Arguments should not exceed 12 numbers of pages. However, the total number of pages
of the memorial shall be limited to 30 pages including cover page.
G. All the pages of the memorial should have page numbers at the bottom right corner.
H. The appellant’s memorial should have Blue cover page and the respondent’s memorial should have
Red Cover Page.
I. The teams should use the 19th Blue Book edition for footnotes throughout the
Memorial.
J. Formatting Specifications
For Main Text:
a) Font type: Times New Roman
b) Font size: 12
c) Line spacing: 1.5
d) Body of text: Justified
For Heading:
a) Font type: Times New Roman
b) Font size: 14
For Cover Page:
a) Font type: Times New Roman

K. The maximum score for the memorial shall be 100 marks. The criteria for evaluating the
Memorial is as follows,

Organized Manner and Clarity 20
Grammar and Style 20
L. Submission of soft copies of the Memorial(s) after the specified deadlines shall result in
deduction of 10 marks every day.
M. The contents of the memorial should not be plagiarized (35% limit) or else it will amount to
total deduction of memorial marks or disqualification. The decision of the organizers shall be final.
IV. STRUCTURE OF COMPETITION
i. The Preliminary Round ( 2 Rounds )
ii. The Quarter Round (8 teams will be selected )
iii. The Semi Finals Round (4 teams will be selected )
iv. The Final Round (2 teams )
V. PRELIMINARY ROUND
Each team will be leading the case from both the sides. The opposing teams will be decided
by draw of lots online. Each team will get a total of 15 minutes to present their case for one side, the time
for rebuttal round shall be total 10 minutes, (5 minutes for preparation, and another 5 minutes for presenting
the answer). Breaching the allotted time will lead to deduction of 0.25 marks per minute.
However, extension of time is permissible at the discretion of the judges. The division of time per speaker
for a team is left at the discretion of the team members subject to a maximum of 8 minutes per speaker. The
oral arguments should be confined to the issues presented in the memorial. The researcher shall not present
any oral argument however the presence of the researcher is mandatory during the oral rounds. Strict
adherence to court manners shall be observed by all the participants.
Maximum score for oral rounds will be 100 points per speaker, which consists the following:

Note : - Organizing Committee reserves the right to amend rules, guidelines etc at any given point of time
without any prior notice to any participant. The Organizers shall not be responsible for any loss or slow
Internet Connection during the Competition. We request all the participants to arrange a sound Internet
Connection
VI. THE QUARTER ROUND
8 Teams which qualifies the preliminary round will enter in the quarter round .
VII. THE SEMI FINAL ROUND
4 teams which qualifies the quarter round will enter in the semi final round.
VIII. THE FINAL ROUND
Final 2 teams which qualifies the semi final round will compete against each other in the Final round.
Note :- Memorial marks will not be added in the Oral Marks of both Semi-final and Final
Rounds.
AWARDS
1. Winner: Rs. 1,500/- (One Thousand Five Hundred Only) and certificate and trophy
2. Runner up: Rs. 1000/- (One Thousand Only) and certificate and trophy
3. Best Advocate: Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred Only) and certificate and trophy
4. Best Memorial: Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred Only) and certificate and trophy
5. Best Researcher : Rs. 500/- (Five Hundred Only) and certificate and trophy
5. CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION: E-certificate of participation shall be provided to all the participants who
will be submitting the memorial.
