COLCOTE STM
Bitumen based Stone Precoating Fluid
Product Data Sheet 2012/08
DESCRIPTION
COLCOTE S™ is a bitumen based cutback blended from selected petroleum derivatives and a chemical adhesion agent.
USES
COLCOTE S™ is used for precoating stone chips in road surfacing seals to improve adhesion between the stone and binder.
Can be used with:
• All bituminous binders, including bitumen emulsions, without the risk of incompatibility problems.
• All local road stone, including granite and quartsitic aggregates.
PROPERTIES
COLCOTE S™ has excellent adhesion when used with damp or dusty aggregate.
COLCOTE S™ is non-irritating to eyes and skin and odourless after curing.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
1. Aggregate to be precoated should be relatively free of dust. Slightly damp stone will precoat more easily, but wet stone
must be dried out.
2. Add the prescribed quantity of precoating fluid (see table below for typical application rates) to a measured quantity of
aggregate. Mix with front-end loader or concrete mixer until uniformly coated.

3. After precoating, protect the stockpile against rain to prevent run-off. Allow the stone chips to dry for at least 3-4 days
before use. Unlimited stockpile life, but avoid dust contamination.
