Shakira

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977 in


Barranquilla, in southern Colombia. Shakira's father William Mebarak,
American-born but of Arab origin, was a jeweler but working with the
local newspaper. The view in front of the typewriter Shakira woke up in
the desire to do so too, had learned to read at age three and was writing
poetry at four. Her father encouraged the paper to transcribe your
thoughts and emotions, and so, almost playing, he developed his ability
to write songs.
At four years, Shakira first heard the dumbek or derbake, the drum that
accompanies belly dancing in Arab food restaurant in Barranquilla.

When she was four years old, her father had a local restaurant in the
Middle East, where he first heard derbake, a traditional drum used in
Arabic music, a typical accompaniment to belly dancing. Before he knew
it, he was already dancing on a table, and the restaurant patrons
clapped enthusiastically. It was then that he knew he wanted to be an
artist.

At eight years old, Shakira's father filed for bankruptcy, while details of
the process were finalized, he was living with relatives in Los Angeles.
Upon returning to Barranquilla, he was surprised to find that much of his
parents' possessions had been sold; later, he said, "In my childish head,
that was the end of the world." To show her the worst, her father took
her to a nearby park to see the orphans who lived there. The image
impressed her and she said to herself, "One day I am going to help
these children, when I become a famous artist."

He participated for the first time in the television contest Looking for a
children's artist in 1988 (from the regional chain of the Colombian coast
Telecaribe), a contest that he won for three consecutive years.
After two unsuccessful attempts in 1991 and 1993, Shakira debuted in
the Spanish-American record market in 1995 with the album Pies
descalzos, collaborating with Luis Fernando Ochoa in the composition
and production of the included songs, which include "I'm here", "Where
are you Love?" and «Anthology»; It is estimated that he has sold more
than 4 million copies.9 Years later, working with Ochoa and with
precision, Where are the thieves? (1998), thus achieving sales of more
than 7 million albums sold. International success came in 2001 with her
album Laundry service, placing her at the top of the Anglo-Saxon
market with more than 13 million albums sold.

Four years later, Shakira released her sixth studio album, titled Oral
Fixation vol. 1 and again collaborated with Luis Fernando Ochoa, and
became one of the most internationally acclaimed artists when he
began promoting his fifth studio album, Oral Fixation vol. 2, whose
relaunch in early 2006 involved the release of "Hips Don't Lie", which
made her the first South American artist in history to rank a number
one song on the Billboard Hot chart. 100, The Rolling Stone ranked her
# 41 on the 50 Most Successful Latin Songs of All Time, a different
version titled Hips Don't Lie / Bamboo was included on the soundtrack
of the 2006 Soccer World Cup.

Shakira as a pioneer who redefined the international reach of Latino
singers.

Shakira is one of the highest-selling record artists in history. Billboard


magazine has placed his career as one of the most consolidated in the
history of Latin America, placing three of his singles among the twenty
most important in the history of Billboard, "Blackmail" "Torture" and
"Luck" placing them in positions # 6 # 7 and # 16.

Similarly, she was the only female artist in Billboard's top 50 of the
most successful Latin songs of the 2010s, ranking "blackmail" at # 18.
On February 2, 2020 Shakira and Jennifer Lopez led the Super Bowl
LIV Halftime Show, Miami Gardens, Florida, became one of the most-
watched halftime shows of all time.
